SEAM SEAL AND METHOD FOR FORMING THE SAME ON STRETCH DENIM AND OTHER FABRIC PRODUCTS
A method for sealing a seam in a fabric provides for joining at least one piece of a stretchable, one-ply woven fabric to another fabric such as another stretchable one-ply woven fabric, and for sealing the seam with a strip of another piece of fabric with an adhesive laminated thereon. The stretchable one-ply woven fabric includes elastic and inelastic fibers. A seam is produced in which the fabric fibers adhere to the seam and do not pull back from the seam. Also provided is a method for forming a hem and sealing the hem with a strip of another piece of fabric, to produce a hem that is resistant to fiber slippage. The method is advantageously used to form denim and other garments from woven fabrics that include at least 65% natural fibers along with various elastomeric fibers.
AUTOMATED FIBER-PLACEMENT SYSTEMS AND METHODS AND ARTICLES PRODUCED THEREFROM
An article of manufacture (200) comprises a strip (202) that extends along and is centered on a virtual curvilinear path (128), comprising an arc (156), having an arc length (154) and a radius (134). A ratio of the strip-width (208) to the radius (134) is greater than or equal to 0.003. The arc length (154) is equal to or greater than a product of the radius (134) and /64. Within each of discrete strip-regions (222) of the strip (202), one of the unidirectional reinforcement fibers (132) that is closest to the first longitudinal strip-edge (204) is more buckled than another one of the unidirectional reinforcement fibers (132) that is closest to the second longitudinal strip-edge (206). Ones of the unidirectional reinforcement fibers (132) that are buckled are parallel to a smallest one of virtual surfaces, joining the first longitudinal strip-edge (204) and the second longitudinal strip-edge (206).
Method For Connecting Components Which Have A Fibre-Reinforced Thermoplastic Plastic
A method for connecting components having a fibre-reinforced thermoplastic plastic includes provision of a first component with a first joining surface, provision of a second component with a second joining surface, flush placement of the first joining surface against the second joining surface in order to form a connection joint, placement of a friction stir welding tool against the connection joint, or a surface directly adjacent thereto, of at least one of the components, softening of the first component and the second component, in each case in a region adjacent to the connection joint, by rotation of the tool, such that the thermoplastic plastic of the two components locally fuses, and movement of the tool along the connection joint for the purposes of connecting the two components by formation of a fusion seam, wherein portions of reinforcement fibres are stirred in to increase the strength of the fusion seam.
Method and apparatus for creating pouches or bags with multiphase sealing
A method and apparatus for forming pouches and/or bags is disclosed. A seal and/or insert is crushed using a multiphase sealer or crusher.
Method for manufacturing composite airfoils
The present disclosure is directed to an apparatus and method for manufacturing a composite component. The apparatus includes a mold onto which the composite component is formed. The mold is disposed within a grid defined by a first axis and a second axis. The apparatus further includes a first frame assembly disposed above the mold and a plurality of machine heads coupled to the first frame assembly within the grid in an adjacent arrangement along the first axis. At least one of the mold or the plurality of machine heads is moveable along the first axis, the second axis, or both. At least one of the machine heads of the plurality of machine heads is moveable independently of one another along a third axis. A second frame assembly is moveable above the mold along the first axis, the second axis, or both. The second frame assembly includes a holding device. The holding device affixes to and releases from an outer skin to place and displace the outer skin at the mold.
Ultrasonic Joining Method and Arrangement
A method for joining at least two joining partners includes performing a plurality of ultrasonic joining operations in direct succession, wherein performing an individual ultrasonic joining operation includes, with a second joining tool, applying pressure to a second joining partner arranged adjacent to a first joining partner, thereby pressing the second joining partner against the first joining partner, and, with the second joining tool, applying high-frequency ultrasonic vibrations to the joining partners. The method further includes, during at least one intermediate time interval between two directly successive ultrasonic joining operations, at least one of actively cooling and heating the second joining tool.
System and method for applying a fastening material to a substrate
A system for applying a fastening material to a substrate is provided. The system may include a first material source including the substrate. The substrate may define a first length extending from a first edge to a second edge and the first material source may feed the substrate in a first direction transverse to the first length. The system may additionally include a second material source including the fastening material. The fastening material may define a second length extending from a third edge to a fourth edge, whereby the second length is substantially equal to the first length and the second material source feeds the fastening material in a second direction transverse to the second length. The system may also include an applicator system that secures the fastening material to the substrate.
Packaging container with preformed sealing ring
A packaging container for holding contents such as fresh food. The container comprises a tray having a flange, a pre-formed sealing ring and a flexible film for sealing in the contents of the tray. The sealing ring is made from fiber, filament or tape (FFT) that is shaped into a shape that matches the shape of the tray flange. The sealing ring is adhered to the tray flange by heat welding or other means and the flexible film is adhered to the sealing ring.
METHOD AND SEALING DEVICE FOR SEALING THE EDGES OF COMPOSITE FIBER COMPONENTS
A sealing device for sealing edges of composite fiber components includes a strip feeder to apply a thermoplastic semifinished product to a cut edge of a composite fiber component, and an ultrasonic welding apparatus to thermoplastically or integrally join the thermoplastic semifinished product to the cut edge of the composite fiber component by ultrasonic welding.
Method of bonding a thermoplastic component to a carpeted component and the carpeted component to a cellulose-based core in a single pressing step
A method of bonding a thermoplastic component to a carpeted component and the carpeted component to cellulose-based core in a single pressing step is provided. The method includes providing a base component of a reinforced thermoplastic material, the thermoplastic component, a fibrous thermoplastic carpet or mat between the components, a sheet of thermoplastic adhesive and a core of cellulose-based material. The method also includes heating the thermoplastic component and the carpet at the interface between the thermoplastic component and the carpet for a period of time to soften the carpet. The method finally includes pressing the components, the sheet, the core and the softened carpet together under a pressure to cause the softened carpet to flow.
