METHOD FOR CREATING A CONNECTION BETWEEN COMPONENTS CONSISTING OF DIFFERENT PLASTIC MATERIALS AND ASSOCIATED CONTAINER WITH POURING ATTACHMENT

A method for creating a connection between components of different plastics. A first section can consist of a first plastic whose main constituent is polarised plastic, and a second section can consist of a second plastic whose main constituent is non-polar plastic. The method includes creating the connection between the first section and the second section with help of beamed-in laser energy; subjecting the first section to incident laser energy, the first section being at least partly transparent with regard to the incident laser energy; and absorbing beamed-in laser energy at least partly in a joining region, in which the first and the second sections bear on one another in an overlapping manner amid action of force, to create a positive, unreleasable connection between the two components.

A method of forming a device having a compliant member includes providing an elastomeric layer in an uncured state. The elastomeric layer is pre-cured to increase its viscosity. Subsequently, a bobbin and housing, each having an end, can be positioned such that their ends extend at least partially into the elastomeric layer. The elastomeric layer is cured to secure it to the bobbin housing. Examples of pre-cure and cure operations include one or more of a thermal cure, evaporative cure and ultraviolet cure, and the application of moisture, microwave energy and chemical additive. Due to the increased viscosity after the pre-cure, the migration of elastomeric material is substantially reduced relative to an uncured elastomeric material. The reduction in elastomeric material migration results in smaller menisci formed along the walls of the housing and bobbin, and reduced thinning of the compliant member formed at their ends.

An article at least comprising two components contacting with each other, in which at least part of a surface of at least one of the two components being plated, is provided, which is excellent in plating adhesion and impact resistance and thus is hard to be damaged on the plated surface and excellent in appearance even when one of the two components is brought into contact with the plated part of the other component, and is preferably suppressed in occurrence of unpleasant sounds such as squeaking noise. At least one of the two components of the article is formed of a thermoplastic resin composition (X) comprising a rubber-reinforced aromatic vinyl resin (A) in at least part of the portion that contacts the plated portion of the other component.

A method of forming a device having a compliant member includes applying heat to a thermoplastic elastomer to maintain the thermoplastic elastomer in a softened state. The thermoplastic elastomer is extruded in the softened state as a film of thermoplastic elastomer. One or more of a bobbin and a housing, each having and end, is positioned such that the end extends at least partially into the film of thermoplastic elastomer. The positioning occurs when the thermoplastic elastomer is in the softened state and/or the bobbin and/or housing is at a temperature that is greater than a temperature of the film of thermoplastic elastomer. The film is cooled so that the bobbin and/or housing are secured to the film and so that the thermoplastic elastomer is in a state that exhibits rubber-like properties.

The present disclosure is directed to processes for producing ultrasonic sealable film structures and flexible containers with ultrasonic seals. The film structure includes a first multilayer film and a second multilayer film. Each multilayer film includes a backing layer and a seal layer. Each seal layer includes an ultrasonic sealable olefin-based polymer (USOP) having the following properties: (a) a heat of melting, Hm, less than 130 J/g, (b) a peak melting temperature, Tm, less than 125 C., (c) a storage modulus in shear (G) from 50 MPa to 500 MPa, and (d) a loss modulus in shear (G) greater than 10 MPa.

The multilayer films are arranged such that the seal layer of the first multilayer film is in contact with the seal layer of the second multilayer film. The seal layers form an ultrasonic seal having a seal strength from 30 N/15 mm to 80 N/15 mm when ultrasonically sealed at 4 N/mm seal force.

SUBCUTANEOUS RESERVOIR DEVICE AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURE

The medical devices of the present disclosure are filled reservoirs such as a cylinder comprised of a polymer film which contains a reservoir of active agent, plus excipient, in some cases, for disease prevention, treatment, and/or contraception. The polymer film is permeable to the active agent after subcutaneous implantation of the device into a body. The cylinder is comprised by the lamination of one or two polymer films which are ultrasonically welded to contain the drug material. The use of an ultrasonic welding process enables sealing of the polymer films to create the closed cylinder. The medical device is useful for long term disease prevention, such as prevention of HIV infection.
