Systems and Methods for Actualizing Simulated Scarfs and Patches for Repair of Composite Laminates
Systems and methods for actualizing simulated scarfing and patching for repair of composite laminates. A virtual environment is provided that enables engineers to optimize a repair design and provide the most robust repair solution that meets structural requirements, while minimizing the material removal and the impact to the composite structure. An optimization algorithm is configured to adjust contour offsets for pad-up plies and adjust scarf taper ratios in any direction to reduce the amount of material removed or avoid underlying structures. Scarf repair designs are subsequently transmitted to repair technicians for manual scarfing via printed templates or automated/robotic scarfing using converted computer-readable code. The technology also provides digital data for automated repair ply cutting.

A first thermoplastic component and a second thermoplastic component including a first joint portion and a second joint portion, respectively, are provided. A least a portion of a surface area of each of the first and second joint portions include a respective first and second mating surface. The first and second mating surfaces of the respective first and second joint portions are positioned in contact with one another. The first and second joint portions are fusion joined. Fusion joining the first and second joint portions forms a fused unitary portion of the first and second thermoplastic components.

The duplicator assembly comprises an arm that comprises a first end portion and a second end portion. The first end portion is spaced apart from the second end portion. The duplication assembly also comprises a probe that is fixed to the first end portion of the arm and configured to trace the second void in the scarf repair guide. The duplication assembly further comprises a milling tool that is fixed to the second end portion of the arm such that the milling tool is co-movably coupled with the probe via the arm.

Tire repair method
Repair materials made of at least unvulcanized rubber are applied on a repair site of a damaged part of a tire, heating pads are applied on surfaces of the repair materials, wood pieces or other stuffing members differing in size are stuffed inside the tire, in a tire circumferential in tire circumferential direction where the repair materials are applied. The tire circumferential is fastened and pressed from surroundings by bands, and the repair site is heated by the heating pads to vulcanize the unvulcanized rubber of the repair materials, to thereby repair the tire. This repair method provides a low-cost tire repair method capable of maintaining the shape of the tire at the time of pressing and vulcanization, in various kinds of tires.
