A method for manufacturing a polymer article includes injecting or extruding molten polypropylene, polyethylene or polyester based polymer for converting it into semi-final shape while applying shear and/or extensional deformation on the polymer melt. Applying shear and/or extensional deformation on the polymer melt includes selectively modifying the flow path of the molten semi-crystallizable polymer as a function of local pressure profile over at least part of the flow path. Local pressure profile is a function of optimized response of the polymer melt to the applied local shear and/or extensional deformation over at least the part of the flow path.
CONTROL SYSTEM FOR MACRO ADJUSTMENT OF A POLYMERIC MELT FORMING SLOT TYPE DIE
A system for adjusting a gap in a slot die for producing a polymeric web. The system includes a slot die that has a polymer reservoir that extends between a polymer inlet and a melt outlet. The melt outlet has a first edge and a second edge that each extend longitudinally along the melt outlet. The second edge is opposite the first edge. A plurality of actuators move the second edge along a plurality of positions along a length of the second edge. The first edge is spaced apart from the second edge by a gap that has an adjustable profile. A pressure sensor communicates with the reservoir and measures the pressure of the polymer in the reservoir. A control unit with an algorithm correlates the profile of the gap to the pressure in the reservoir. The algorithm is configured to generate control signals to cause the profile of the gap to be uniform.

METHOD FOR EXTRUDING A SEMI-FINISHED PRODUCT MADE OF ELASTOMERIC MATERIAL
A method for extruding a semi-finished product made of elastomeric material. An elastomeric material is fed to an inlet channel of a gear pump with an inlet pressure value and dispensed through an exit channel of the gear pump with an exit pressure value greater than the inlet pressure value. The method detects the exit pressure value and adjusts the operation of the gear pump to maintain a predetermined pressure difference between the exit pressure and the inlet pressure based on the detection of the exit pressure value.
Tire with variable ribbon size tread and system and method for making same
A method of manufacturing a tire tread includes extruding a rubber strip and conveying the rubber strip through an opening of a roller die. The opening is defined by an upper die and a lower die, wherein the upper die and lower die contact the rubber strip and define a cross-section of the rubber strip as the rubber strip is conveyed through the opening. The method also includes adjusting a distance between the upper die and the lower die as the rubber strip is conveyed through the opening. The method further includes applying the rubber strip from the roller die onto a receptacle that rotates about a receptacle axis. The method also includes translating the roller die in a first direction parallel to the receptacle axis while applying the rubber strip, thereby forming a spiral of the rubber strip about the receptacle.
Method of manufacturing bulked continuous carpet filament
In particular embodiments, a process for producing bulked continuous carpet filament from recycled polymer utilizes two vacuum pumps (140A, 140B) in combination with a single extruder (100). In various embodiments, the dual vacuum arrangement (e.g., at least two vacuum pumps (140A, 140B)) operably coupled to the single extruder (e.g., MRS extruder (100)) may be configured to remove one or more impurities from recycled polymer as the recycled polymer passes through the extruder.
Methods And Installations For Producing A Biaxially Oriented Tube From Thermoplastic Material
A method for producing a biaxially oriented tube from thermoplastic material, wherein a tube in preform condition is extruded from thermoplastic material and is subjected to a temperature conditioning. Use is made of an expansion device and of a drawing device which is arranged downstream of the expansion device. The expansion device includes a non-deformable expansion part and a run-on part located upstream of the expansion part and having an upstream sealing member. The expansion device further includes a first gas discharge duct having one or more first inlet ports in the exterior surface of the expansion device, a first inlet port being open or closed or partly closed dependent on whether or not the first inlet port is covered and closed, or partly closed, by the tube.
METHOD AND FACILITY FOR PRODUCING POLYLACTIDE (PLA) FROM A LACTIDE MIXTURE BY MEANS OF POLYMERIZATION
A method and a facility produce polylactide (PLA) by polymerization, in which a lactide mixture is mixed with at least one catalyst, is introduced into a modular planetary roller extruder and the finished PLA is then removed. The lactide mixture continuously passes through segments of the extruder. The course of the reaction is measured and controlled in the segments in a targeted manner such that the temperature can be set by heating and/or cooling. The pressure can be variably set depending on pressure values to be checked by a controllable gas extraction and/or a controllable extruder speed and/or static variability of the planetary rollers and/or a variable metering speed of the lactide mixture and/or a variable mixing ratio of the lactide mixture. Flammable gas is removed in an explosion-protected zone in a partial region of the extruder. Additives are introduced into the extruder during the rolling process.

Systems and approaches for controlling an injection molding machine having a mold forming a mold cavity and being controlled according to an injection cycle include extruding a molten polymer according to an extrusion profile and measuring at least one variable during the extrusion profile with a first sensor. At least one extrusion operational parameter is adjusted based on the measured variable. The extrusion profile is terminated upon the molten polymer exceeding a first threshold, and the molten polymer is injected into the mold cavity according to an injection profile via a screw that moves from a first position to a second position. Air pressure control for corrugator
In the manufacture of double-walled corrugated extruded pipe it is desirable to form an integral connecting cuff that is of a single wall thickness and typically of a large diameter. The mold blocks and process parameters for forming of the cuff as part of an otherwise double-walled pipe requires a transition as the cuff moves past the die outlets. The present invention allows for accurate sensing and control of air pressure and temperature as the cuff moves past the die outlets. Improvements in both the die tooling and the method of manufacture are disclosed.
