SILICONE HYDROGEL LENS WITH A CROSSLINKED HYDROPHILIC COATING
The invention is related to a cost-effective method for making a silicone hydrogel contact lens having a crosslinked hydrophilic coating thereon. A method of the invention involves heating a silicone hydrogel contact lens in an aqueous solution in the presence of a watersoluble, highly branched, thermally-crosslinkable hydrophilic polymeric material having positively-charged azetidinium groups, to and at a temperature from about 40° C. to about 140° C. for a period of time sufficient to covalently attach the thermally-crosslinkable hydrophilic polymeric material onto the surface of the silicone hydrogel contact lens through covalent linkages each formed between one azetidinium group and one of the reactive functional groups on and/or near the surface of the silicone hydrogel contact lens, thereby forming a crosslinked hydrophilic coating on the silicone hydrogel contact lens. Such method can be advantageously implemented directly in a sealed lens package during autoclave.
Wettable silicone hydrogel contact lenses and related compositions and methods
Silicone hydrogel contact lenses having ophthalmically acceptable surface wettabilities are obtained from pre-extracted polymerized silicone hydrogel contact lens products having relatively large amounts of removable or extractable materials. The silicone hydrogel contact lenses can be obtained from non-polar resin based contact lens molds and without surface treatments or an interpenetrating polymeric network of a polymeric wetting agent. Related lens products, polymerizable compositions, and methods are also described.
Silicone Elastomer-Hydrogel Hybrid Contact Lenses
A silicone elastomer-hydrogel hybrid contact lens includes a silicone elastomer layer and a hydrogel layer adhered to the silicone elastomer layer by a delamination-resistant bond that is formed by an elastomer-swellable monomer that is included in the polymerizable composition used to form the hydrogel layer.
Silicone Elastomer-Silicone Hydrogel Hybrid Contact Lenses
A silicone elastomer-silicone hydrogel hybrid contact lens comprises a silicone elastomer layer adhered to silicone hydrogel layer by a delamination-resistant bond. The silicone hydrogel layer has a percent swell of about −5% up to about 20%. The silicone elastomer layer may have one or more objects embedded within it or adhered to its surface. Such objects may include variable-focus lenses and/or electronic components.
Method for producing silicone hydrogel contact lenses
The invention provides a contact lens manufacturing method comprising a process for removing unprocessed molded silicone hydrogel contact lenses from mold halves in a relatively efficient and consistent manner. A method of the invention comprises the combination of using a hydrophilic (meth)acrylamido monomer as one of major polymerizable components in a lens formulation for cast-molding of contact lenses, adding a post-curing treatment step which involves heating molds with molded lenses therewithin in an oven at a post-curing temperature higher than the curing temperature and under nitrogen gas flow at a higher flow rate, and using ultrasonic vibration energy for delensing. This method of the invention can be easily implemented in a production environment for enhancing the production yield.
MEDICAL DEVICE WITH PRE-DEFINED SPACE AND RELATED METHODS
A medical device including a pre-defined space such as a geometric shape or void. In one approach, the pre-defined space provides desired rigidity and more comfort for a user. There is also provided an approach which enables engravings and accommodates electronics, mechanical objects, or other rigid or unique shapes to be embedded within a medical device such as a contact lens. When adapted to swellable substrates, the resulting swelled material can leave a gap around a perimeter of embedded structure.
Medical device and method for producing the same
A medical device includes a layer made of an acidic polymer and a basic polymer formed on at least a part of a surface of a water-containing base material, wherein at least one kind of an acidic polymer and a basic polymer forming the acidic polymer or the basic polymer is a polymer having a hydroxy group.
Method for making silicone hydrogel contact lenses
The invention provides a method for making silicone hydrogel contact lenses. The method of the invention is characterized by using an organic solvent as a processing-aid tool for controlling lens diameter without significantly affecting lens equilibrium water content during cast-molding of soft contact lenses from a polymerizable composition. By adjusting the weight percentage of the organic solvent in a polymerizable composition for making SiHy contact lenses, one can adjust lens diameter of produced SiHy lenses to meet target without affecting adversely the lens properties.
Hydrophilic coating method for contact lens surface
The present invention provides a hydrophilic coating method for contact lens surface, firstly performing a hydration procedure S1 to form a hydrated polymer from a non-hydrated polymer, then sequentially contacting the hydrated polymer with a first solution and a second solution containing a high molecular compound at a specific temperature between 50° C. and 70° C. to complete a first hydration process S2 and a second hydration process S3. A contact lens 1 obtained according to the above procedures has a contact angle ranging from about 30° to 65°, and proteins and lipids are not easily deposited on a surface of the contact lens 1, thereby providing the user with good comfort when wearing.
