CAST MOULD FOR MANUFACTURING CONTACT LENSES OR INTRAOCULAR LENSES

A cast mould for manufacturing a contact lens or an intraocular lens, wherein the cast mould is provided with a central part and a bearing ring and a flexible connection between the central part and the bearing ring. Further, an injection mould is provided for manufacturing such a cast mould and a method for manufacturing such a cast mould. The injection mould is provided with a mould cavity with a plunger biased by spring means towards the mould cavity which serves for compensating shrinkage which occurs during the curing of the plastic injected into the injection mould. Also described is a method for manufacturing a contact lens or intraocular lens with the aid of the cast mould, as well as a contact lens or intraocular lens obtained with this method.

The present invention general related to a method and a reusable mold for making a contact lens, comprising a first mold half having a first mold surface in contact with a silicone containing lens forming composition and a second mold half having a second mold surface in contact with the lens forming composition. The first mold half and the second mold half are configured to receive each other such that a cavity is formed between the first mold surface and the second mold surface, wherein the cavity defines the shape of a contact lens to be molded. The lens forming composition is polymerizable and/or crosslinkable by a UV radiation, wherein at least one of the mold halves is made from an oxide glass material having a UV transmission cut-off wavelength no less than 390 nm and a specific gravity higher than 3.5.

Contact Lens Mould And Methods

A mould for the production of a contact lens, the mould comprising a first mould half shaped to provide the front surface of the contact lens; and a second mould half shaped to provide the rear surface of the contact lens, wherein the first and second mould halves form a mould cavity, wherein the first mould half has a first rim and the second mould half has a second rim, and the first and second rims fit together to provide a seal for the mould cavity, wherein the first rim is inclined at an angle of x relative to an axis passing through the centre of the first and second mould halves, wherein x is from 30 to 60, and wherein the second rim is inclined at an angle of x-y relative to the axis passing through the centre of the first and second mould halves, where y is from 0 to 4, and wherein the first and second rims provide a guide for the mould halves, a method of making a contact lens using the mould and a method of making a mould.

METHOD OF MANUFACTURING A MOULD FOR AN OPTICAL ELEMENT

One or more master pieces, representing, in conjunction, an optical element like a lens, are printed on a substrate, for example by deposition of droplets of a master substance. In case of one or more master pieces, the pieces are well aligned relative to one another. The master substance is allowed to settle and subsequently, a mould substance is provided in one or more formworks provided around the master pieces. The mould substance is allowed to settle, thus providing one or more mould pieces with a partial cavity being the negative of the one or more master pieces. By proper alignment of the mould pieces, the partial cavities form a single compound cavity in which a lens compound may be provided for manufacturing of the optical element.
