Oriented film comprising poly(ethylene-2,5-furandicarboxylate)
An oriented film including poly(ethylene-2,5-furandicarboxylate) is produced in a process by preparing a sheet from a poly(ethylene-2,5-furandicarboxylate) resin by heat processing, which sheet has a thickness of at most 2.5 mm; allowing the sheet to cool; and stretching the cooled sheet in at least one direction with a stretch ratio of at least 4/1 at a temperature in the range of 90 to 130° C., yielding an oriented film. The oriented film has a thickness of 1 to 400 μm and a tensile strength at break of at least 100 MPa.
Biaxially oriented thermoplastic pipette, and method and apparatus for forming same
Unitary measuring pipettes include a tubular body of biaxially oriented thermoplastic material, together with size reduction, elimination, and/or reorientation of longitudinally spaced, raised circumferential witness features, to mitigate or avoid interference between such witness features and graduated volumetric markings on an outside surface of the tubular body. Methods and apparatus for vacuum forming of unitary measuring pipettes are also provided. Gas permeable apertures or pores having a maximum width of no greater than 150 microns, in ranges of 10-100 microns, 10-50 microns, or subranges thereof, may be defined in face plates or inserts received by mold blanks, or defined in molding surface of cooperating mold bodies, and may be used to produce a tubular pipette body having reduced height witness features. Cooperating mold bodies may each be produced from multiple mold body sections with gas passages defined therein and/or therebetween.
POLYESTER FILMS AND DEVICES CONTAINING THEM
A thermoformable biaxially oriented coextruded polyester film comprising a copolyester base layer B, a first polyester outer layer A1 and a second polyester outer layer A2, wherein said outer layers are disposed on opposite surfaces of said base layer, and wherein:
(i) said base layer B comprises a copolyester derived from terephthalic acid (TA) and a second aromatic dicarboxylic acid and one or more diol(s), wherein said second aromatic dicarboxylic acid is present in the copolyester in an amount of from about 5 to about 20 mol % of the acid fraction of the copolyester;
(ii) the polyester of each of said outer layers A1 and A2 is selected from polyethylene terephthalate (PET); and
(iii) the thickness of the base layer constitutes at least 90% of the total thickness of the coextruded multi-layer polyester film.
Polyester film with coating
A transparent, single- or multilayer, biaxially oriented polyester film with reduced oxygen transmission rates, having a barrier coating on at least one film surface, where the barrier coating is the drying product of an aqueous coating dispersion or aqueous coating solution, that includes at least one polyanion and at least one polyethyleneimine, where the polyanion has neutralized acid groups which are carboxylate, phosphate and/or sulfate groups, and the dry thickness d of the coating is in the range of 15 nm≤d<200 nm. The biaxially oriented, coated polyester film has transparency≥88% and oxygen permeation lower at least by a factor of two than that of the uncoated biaxially oriented film. A process for the production of the biaxially oriented, coated polyester film, and also its use as oxygen-barrier film.
Printable film
An extruded multilayer film includes a top layer comprising a blend of a polyolefin and adsorbent silica. The adsorbent silica is 5% or more of the blend and the polyolefin is 95% or less of the blend. The multilayer film is oriented in at least one direction to cause fracturing of the top layer to provide a microporous surface exposing the adsorbent silica gel. The fractured top layer is receptive to receiving a printing ink on an exposed surface thereof with enhanced pigment entrapment and rapid ink drying. A single layer film in the form of the top layer, and also oriented in at least one direction also constitutes a part of this invention.

In one example embodiment, disclosed is a biaxially oriented multilayer film, which may include a first tie layer and a second tie layer, wherein each has an inside surface and an outside surface. The film's core layer may consist of: (i) at least 50 wt. % high-crystalline polypropylene; (ii) both cyclic olefin copolymer and polypropylene homopolymer, or, polypropylene heterophasic copolymer; (iii) and, optionally, additives, wherein the core layer is between the inside surface of the first tie layer and the inside surface of the second tie layer. The film may also include a first skin layer on the outside surface of the first tie layer and a second skin layer on the outside surface of the second tie layer, wherein shrinkage is less than 3.5% in a transverse direction for the biaxially oriented multilayer film after subjecting the biaxially oriented multilayer film to 135° C. for 7 min at 1 atm.
