Producing semi-crystalline pulverulent polycarbonate and use thereof in additive manufacturing
11634546 · 2023-04-25 · ·

Ways of preparing a partially crystalline polycarbonate powder are provided that include dissolving an amorphous polycarbonate in a polar aprotic solvent to form a first solution of solubilized polycarbonate at a first temperature. The first solution is then cooled to a second temperature, the second temperature being lower than the first temperature, where a portion of the solubilized polycarbonate precipitates from the first solution to form a second solution including the partially crystalline polycarbonate powder. Certain partially crystalline polycarbonate powders resulting from such methods are particularly useful in additive manufacturing processes, including powder bed fusion processes.

Manufacturing apparatus and method of manufacturing a tow prepreg
11660784 · 2023-05-30 · ·

A resin supply unit of a manufacturing apparatus supplies a resin to a roller surface of an impregnated roller which is capable of rotating at a constant speed. A transport mechanism brings the fiber bundle into contact with the resin on the roller surface and thereby forms a tow prepreg while the fiber bundle is being transported. A fineness acquisition unit acquires as a fineness acquisition value a fineness, which is defined by a mass per unit length of the fiber bundle during conveyance thereof before being brought into contact with the resin. A resin supply amount control unit controls the resin supply amount based on the fineness acquisition value, in a manner so that a resin content of the tow prepreg becomes a target resin content.

Production of molded bodies from an inorganic-organic hybrid polymer with high resolution using 3D printing, molded bodies with a high flexural strength and elastic modulus, and the use thereof for dental purposes

The invention relates to a method for producing a shaped body by means of a radiation-induced printing process according to the technique of the one-photon polymerization process, characterized in that the shaped body is produced by solidifying a liquid or viscous material which contains a polysiloxane component produced by hydrolytic condensation of one or more monomeric silanes having exclusively two or three hydrolyzable groups and at least one organically polymerizable radical being bonded to the silicon atom via carbon, and contains an initiator and/or catalyst for the radiation-induced polymerization of the organically polymerizable residue, and the solidification is effected by directing light onto a region of a surface of a substrate, whereby a layer of the material located there is polymerized and thereby solidified, whereupon further layers are successively solidified. Furthermore, the invention relates to a shaped body based on an organically polymerized silica (hetero)polycondensate, which was produced by organic polymerization of the aforementioned polysiloxane component, with superior mechanical properties.

Golf ball and method of manufacture
09849346 · 2017-12-26 · ·

In a golf ball having a core and a cover, the core is formed of a rubber composition, has center and surface portions which are unfoamed regions and has an intermediate portion containing a foamed region. The core is produced by charging the rubber composition, which contains a blowing agent, into a first curing mold and curing under given conditions, then removing the molded rubber material in a semi-cured state from the first mold, transferring the semi-cured material to a second curing mold and curing under given conditions. The foamed region of the core deforms by a certain degree at the time of impact, decreasing the radius of gyration of the ball and enabling a lower spin rate to be achieved. The decrease in resilience due to expansion of the molded material can be held to a minimum.
