A press includes a movable platen and a non-moving platen within a housing defining a pressing chamber including an outlet defined in a front wall of the chamber vertically between the top and bottom of the movable platen. The lid may include a front portion extending over the front of the pressing chamber and defining a slot that is aligned with a slot defined by the front wall to form the outlet. The front wall, the lid, and a sidewall may be removable for cleaning. The produce pack may have edges defining a rectangle with a spout at a first corner and an aperture for suspending the produce pack in the pressing chamber at a second corner that is intersected by a same edge intersecting the first corner. The produce pack may be reusable with a magnetic closure.

Herb oil pressing devices and methods are provided. The devices include a pair of closable opposed jaws that can apply pressure to a herb placed between the jaws; a motor connected to the jaws for controlling the closing of the jaws, and, when closed, controlling the pressure produced between the jaws; a heater connected to the jaws for heating the jaws and herb; a housing in which the jaws, the motor, and the heater are housed; and a user interface connected to the jaws and the heater, the user interface for inputting a selection of temperature, pressure, and amount of time the temperature and pressure is applied to a herb positioned between the jaws to extract oil therefrom. A heat press for extracting fluid, such as oil, from a biological plant. A lower heat platen is fixedly attached to a main frame and an upper heat platen is retractably positioned opposite to the lower heat platen. A pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder or a manual or electronic linear actuator provides pressure to an actuation means that is operatively connected to the upper heat platen for initiating movement. A control mechanism that consists of a single pressure regulator system or a dual pressure regulator system is used to control pressure of a pressing operation of the heat press. Alternatively, a digital regulator system can be used to control pressure, time, and temperature of a pressing operation of the heat press. At least one of the upper and lower heat platens has embedded heating elements and an isolated thermocouple. A user interface panel, having an LCD display, a user keyboard, or a touchscreen display is also mounted to the main enclosure.

An apparatus for filling the basket of a portafilter of an espresso machine with a predetermined dose of coffee grounds and for pressing it within the portafilter is disclosed. A support device for supporting the portafilter projects out of a front wall of the espresso machine. The portafilter is placed on the support device in a first coffee-dispensing position below a coffee grounds dispenser, then moved to a second position below a pressing device. In the second position, a pestle of the pressing device is moved vertically toward the dose of coffee contained in a basket of the portafilter to compress the coffee grounds a desired amount, and is then removed vertically away from the basket of the portafilter containing the pressed coffee dose.

Apparatuses, systems, and methods are disclosed for extracting oil from biomass. An ultrasonic stack may be configured to produce ultrasonic vibrations at a first surface. An anvil may include a second surface disposed so that the first surface and the second surface define opposite sides of a space for receiving a biomass. A press coupled to the ultrasonic stack and the anvil may be configured to press the ultrasonic stack and the anvil together to compress the space and/or the biomass disposed in the space. The compressed space may be at least partially unenclosed to permit oil to move out of the biomass.

A filtration assembly for separating solids from liquids contained in a sample, and a method for preparing such a sample are disclosed herein. According to one embodiment, the filtration assembly includes an inner element (100) with proximal and distal ends (102,103) and a sample (200) disposed therein. A reinforcing sleeve (300) is disposed around the inner element (100) to form a sample receiver (250) with proximal and distal ends (252,253). A filter (400) is disposed at the open proximal end of the sample receiver (252) and a filtrate receiver (500) is placed over the filter (400) and threadedly engaged with the sample receiver (250) to clamp the filter (400) therebetween. Then, the receivers (250,500) are inverted and a pressure is applied to the sample (200) to force a liquid component (200a) through the filter (400) into the filtrate receiver (500), while solids (200b) are retained in the sample receiver (250).
