A baling machine including a gathering ram and a hopper with a charging chamber is disclosed. The hopper can include a pair of flat doors and an actuator that can move the flat doors to apply compression force to material placed in the hopper. The compression force applied by the flat doors can improve efficiency of the baling machine by increasing the amount of the material compacted by each stroke of the gathering ram.

In the compaction material feeding device the compaction material compartment is limited by a web-shaped carrier element having side wall segments and having a floor segment, as well as at least two fixed second side walls situated opposite one another. The carrier element can be lifted by a lifter device. In a maximally lifted end position of the carrier element, this element is drawn tight, and a compaction material transfer region of the compaction material feeding device is covered and closed by one of the side wall segments of the carrier element. In addition, a baling press is provided having a compaction material feeding device as described.

The packaging device includes a fixing device (23) applying the bale-fixing element (11), a supply device (25) supplying the upper part and the lower part and optionally an envelope device (24) applying the side part to the compressed bales. The fixing device and optionally the envelope device are arranged on a transport apparatus (19) that travels along the compressed bale in an advancing direction (22). The supply device is arranged on the transport apparatus and supplies the upper part and the lower part with a supply movement oriented transversely to the advancing direction, from the outside into the baling press.
