Disclosed are embossed, multi-ply tissue products having differing texture on each of their first and second outer surfaces. The difference in texture may be measured using a Tissue Softness Analyzer and the second side may have a TS750 value that is about five times greater than the TS750 value of the first side. The differing texture may be imparted by different embossing patterns disposed on the first and second surfaces where the embossments forming the second pattern are oriented such that they protrude outwardly away from the second surface. Despite having differing textures, the products are generally soft, such as having an Average TS7 value less than about 12.0 and have good sheet bulk, such as a sheet bulk greater than about 10.0 cubic centimeters per gram (cc/g).

EMBOSSER COMPRISING A DISPENSER FOR STIFFENING A PLY OF PAPER, CONVERTING LINE AND PROCESS
20250269621 · 2025-08-28 · ·

Provided is an embosser that contains a first embossing unit configured to emboss a first ply (P) of tissue paper wound between a first upper roller and a first lower roller; and a second embossing unit configured to emboss a second ply (P) of tissue paper wound between a second upper roller and a second lower roller. The first lower roller and the second upper roller are at least close defining a coupling zone (C) of the plies (P) and (P). The embosser further contains at least one dispenser placed upstream of the coupling zone (C) and configured to dispense a predetermined amount of a stiffening substance on a predetermined area A of the embossed ply (P) or (P). Also provided are a converting line for processing tissue paper and a process to stiffen a ply of tissue paper to be coil-winded around a core to be extracted.

Rolls of an embosser laminator unit may be calibrated with an iterative process of moving axial ends of the roll a set incremental distance until contact between the rolls is made and then making a correction to the distance based upon the end of the roll making contact. The rolls may be move an initial position where the faces of the rolls are devoid of contact with each other. One or both of the rolls may be rotated. The distance between the ends of the rolls may be decreased until the faces of the rolls make contact with each other. The distance between the first ends of the rolls may be increased by an incremental amount, and a determination of contact between the faces of the rolls may be made by alternate movement of the rolls by the incremental amount and position prior to contact.

An embossing unit including an engraved steel roller and a rubber counter-roller, where the rubber counter-roller exerts a thrust of a predetermined value on the engraved roller by a corresponding actuator, where the engraved roller a marrying-roll is also associated which exerts on the same engraved roller a radial thrust of a predetermined value by a respective actuator. The thrust exerted by the counter-roller on the engraved roller is contained in a plane passing through the axis of rotation of the respective engraved roller and is inclined by a predetermined angle with respect to a plane passing through the same axis of rotation and also passing through the axis of the marrying-roll, so as to produce a counter-thrust opposite to the thrust. The marrying-roll is made of steel.
