Described herein is a method for making fibrous water-soluble unit doses utilizing a repeating nested pattern.

A liquid-absorbing, liquid barrier bag comprising a liquid-permeable envelope within which a super-absorbent material in powder or granular form is disposed, the absorbent material being characterized in that it greatly increases in volume upon liquid absorption. The super-absorbent material is adhered to one or more of the inner surfaces of the liquid-permeable envelope such that the desired distribution and pattern is maintained during handling, shipping and activation of the liquid-absorbing. Upon contact with liquid, such as by soaking the bag in water, the super-absorbent material releases from the inner surfaces and swells to create a three-dimensional body suitable for stacking to form a liquid-impermeable barrier wall.

Methods for making films including a water-soluble polymeric material and a vapor-deposited inorganic coating are disclosed. The method comprises providing a layer of water-soluble polymeric material and vapor depositing an inorganic coating to at least one surface of the layer of water-soluble polymeric material, wherein the inorganic coating comprises a metal oxide. The method further comprises forming a plurality of microfractures extending along the surface of the inorganic coating.

A wash-off label includes a face film. According to an embodiment the face film is at least uniaxially oriented and comprises at least one of the polyolefins: cyclic olefin copolymer, propylene terpolymer, propylene random copolymer, propylene homopolymer, heterophasic polypropylene and linear low density polyethylene. A multilayer nanofiber sheet (10) includes: a nanofiber layer (11) including nanofibers which comprise a water-soluble polymer compound; a substrate layer (12) arranged on one surface side of the nanofiber layer (11); and a water-insoluble porous layer (13) arranged on the other surface side of the nanofiber layer (11). An ultra-fast marine-biodegradable composite film can include at least one water-soluble layer, and at least one marine-biodegradable layer disposed in contact with the at least one water-soluble layer. The composite film can include a plurality of the water-soluble layer, and a plurality of the marine-biodegradable layer interspaced between the marine-biodegradable layers. The composite film may be used for packaging, including food packaging. Methods of preparing an ultra-fast marine-biodegradable composite film are also disclosed.
