Means for higher speed inkjet printing
10166765 · 2019-01-01 ·

A method and apparatus for subdividing and printing regions of a substrate with multiple print heads or multiple print head assemblies which substantially decreases printing time is described. The method includes a feathering method which reduces overlap artifacts which is useful in any printing situation where adjacent regions are printed that could be misaligned, offset, or have slightly different colors.

The invention relates to a machine and method for single-pass digital printing on glass (1).

The machine comprises: a support structure (2) for securing the sheet of glass (1); and a printing bridge (3) which, during printing, can move along the longitudinal X axis of the support structure (2), said bridge supporting digital printing means (33) with print bars (100, 100, 100) comprising successive printing heads (10, 10, 10), as well as supporting a scanner (32) for capturing data relating to the positions of defects (X, Y).

Inkjet printhead with butting printhead chips attached to common support web

An inkjet printhead including: an elongate fluid manifold having a plurality of fluid outlets positioned longitudinally along a base of the fluid manifold, each neighboring pair of fluid outlets being separated by a support web; and a plurality of butting printhead chips arranged in a row and attached to the base of the fluid manifold, each printhead chip receiving a printing fluid from one or more fluid outlets. Each butting pair of printhead chips has respective butting end portions commonly supported by one of the support webs.

A method of printing is provided where printing is using a first printing unit having redundant nozzles. Then, the method may include stopping the printing with the first printing unit while continuing the printing with active nozzles of a second printing unit. The method may include inspecting the first printing unit and identifying faulty nozzles, then designating the faulty nozzles as inactive and designating inactive nozzles of the first printing unit as a new active nozzle. According to some embodiments the method may include moving the first printing unit to an inspection zone prior to inspecting while continuing the printing with active nozzles of a second printing unit and moving the first printing unit back to the printing zone after inspection and continuing the printing with the first printing unit.
