A liquid discharge apparatus includes a rotator, a liquid discharger, a sheet-material position detector, a first signal output device, a second signal output device, and circuitry. The rotator carries a sheet material on a circumferential surface and conveys the sheet material. The liquid discharger discharges liquid onto the sheet material. The sheet-material position detector detects a position of the sheet material. The first signal output device outputs a first signal corresponding to a rotation amount of the rotator. The second signal output device outputs a second signal correlated with a movement amount of the sheet material on the circumferential surface of the rotator. The circuitry determines a discharge start timing of the liquid discharger from a detection result of the sheet-material position detector and the first signal, and generates a discharge timing of the liquid discharger from the second signal.

MACHINE ARRANGEMENT WITH PRINTING UNIT FOR THE SEQUENTIAL PROCESSING OF SHEET-TYPE SUBSTRATES

A machine arrangement sequentially processes sheet-like substrates with multiple different processing stations each having a substrate-guiding unit and a substrate-processing unit. At least one of the processing stations has, as a substrate-processing unit, at least one non-impact printing device which prints on the substrate. The processing station with the at least one non-impact printing device has a printing cylinder. Each non-impact printing device is arranged at the circumference of the printing cylinder. The printing cylinder is triple-sized or quadruple-sized. A double-sized or a triple-sized transfer drum, or a corresponding feed cylinder, is arranged directly upstream of this printing cylinder. Alternatively, a double-sized or a triple-sized transfer drum, or a corresponding transfer cylinder, is arranged directly downstream of this printing cylinder.

The printing apparatus includes a transfer mechanism (18) that receives the sheet (4) after printing at a receiving position (P2) and transfers the sheet (4) to one of a discharge route (44) and a reversing route (42). The reversing route (42) employs an arrangement that returns the reversed sheet (4) to the printing cylinder (17) at a return position (P3) located on the downstream side of the receiving position (P2) in the transfer direction of the sheet (4) and on the upstream side of the supply position (P1) in the transfer direction of the sheet (4). A cooling means (45) for cooling the transfer surface (24 (outer peripheral surface)) of the printing cylinder (17) is provided between the receiving position (P2) and the return position (P3). It is possible to provide the printing apparatus that suppresses an increase in the temperature of the transfer surface of the printing cylinder and always sets the temperature of the sheet at an appropriate temperature.
