Power allocation in printing devices

Power allocation in printing devices is disclosed. Independent load requests are received from printing device heater systems. A first load request is received from a first heater system and a second load request is received from a second heater system. Power grants are allocated based on a general power arbitration of a power source in response to the independent load requests. The power grants include a first power grant based on the first load request and a second power grant based on the second load request. The power grants are adjusted based on a contextual printing condition. The power grants are adjusted to apportion a measure of the second power grant to the first power grant rather than provide the measure of the second power grant to the second heater system if a print substance density is outside a selected print substance density threshold.

A printing apparatus includes an interface that supplies power from the outside, a battery, and a conveyance unit that conveys a printing medium using power from the battery or interface. When the remaining battery level before conveyance of a printing medium starts is determined as being not less than a first threshold, the conveyance unit is caused to convey the printing medium by power from the battery. When the remaining battery level is determined as being less than the first threshold and the printing apparatus is supplied with power from the interface, the battery is charged with power from the interface, the conveyance unit is caused to convey the printing medium, and a second determination is performed for the remaining battery level after the printing medium reaches a predetermined position. When the remaining battery level is determined as being not less than a second threshold, image-printing processing starts.

Determinations of failure conditions based on power consumptions

A volt meter and a current meter may measure a voltage and a current for the calculation of power consumption. A controller may calculate the power consumption when a heating element is activated and when the heating element is deactivated. Based on the power consumptions when the heating element is activated or deactivated, a failure condition may be determined.
