The residue pivoting platform is positioned proximate to the first set of counter-knives in an upstream direction relative to the crop residue flow direction. The second set of counter-knives are configured to enter the housing proximate to the set of rotating knives. The second set of counter-knives are in a downstream direction relative to the crop residue flow from at least one of the residue pivoting platform and the first set of counter-knives.

A straw chopper for a combine harvester has blades extending outwardly from a central hub which rotates about a rotation axis. A feeding channel is formed along the full length of the chopper with an inlet and an outlet angularly offset around the rotation axis by less than 180 degrees. Inwardly facing guide vanes are provided on an outer drum around the blades and the guide vanes are angled so that they are non-perpendicular to the length direction. The vanes thus induce a small lateral movement of the straw so that cuts can be provided at multiple straw positions.

Weed seeds are destroyed in the chaff from a combine harvester by repeated high speed impacts caused by a rotor which accelerates the discarded seeds in a direction centrifugally away from the rotor mounted on a driven shaft onto a stator. Thus the discarded seeds rebound back and forth between the rotor and the stator to provide a plurality of impacts. The destructor is formed in two parts with one part mounted on or coaxially with a suitable drive shaft in the straw stream such as the chopper rotor shaft. The other part is mounted on a second shaft where both shafts are driven by a common belt which connects an output shaft of the combine with both shafts. The two parts of the destructor are mounted outside of a side wall of the straw hood.
