Bead seater apparatus and method for using the same

An apparatus for seating a bead of a tire adjacent a bead seat of a wheel is disclosed.

RAR2 advanced rapid air release valve pneumatic tire seater

A pneumatic tire seater for seating a tubeless tire on a rim has an advanced rapid air release (RAR) valve mounted on a tank suitable for containing pressurized air. A nozzle is mounted on one end of the RAR valve, and the other end of the valve is in unconstrained pneumatic communication with the interior of the air tank. A piston is within a cylinder of the RAR valve. A control chamber behind the piston contains a compression spring. Control gas passageways provide constrained pneumatic communication between the control chamber and the air tank, passing control gas into the control chamber. In response to actuating a control mechanism, the air in the control chamber is vented out into the atmosphere causing the RAR valve to rapidly open, producing a blast of air of sufficient magnitude to seat a tire on a rim.

The fit between a wheel and a tire is improved. A tire assembly fitting device fits a bead portion of a tire of a tire assembly, including a wheel and the tire mounted on the wheel, to a bead seat portion of the wheel. The fitting device includes a support portion configured to support the tire assembly, and a pressing portion. The pressing portion is configured to press a first surface portion in a surface of at least one of sidewalls of the tire. The support portion is configured to support the tire assembly so that a second surface portion located in the surface of the sidewall on the opposite side of the rotation axis of the tire assembly from the first surface portion is displaceable in a direction away from the rim center plane of the wheel.

Process for tire mounting

Described herein is a process for mounting a tire onto a wheel. The process comprises positioning the tire in respect to the wheel such that a first arc of the bottom bead extends between the wheel's top and bottom bead seats. Next, two fingers are placed in contact with the bottom bead at locations immediately adjacent to opposing ends of the first arc of the bottom bead. The first finger rotates about the central axis in a rotational direction away from the first arc of the bottom bead while applying a force in a direction of the bottom bead to advance all of the bottom bead below the top bead seat. These steps are repeated with the top bead to advance all of the top bead below the top bead seat. During the process, the first finger and the second finger may not contact any portion of the wheel.
