Front wheelhub assembly disconnection arrangement for a road vehicle
10822027 · 2020-11-03 · ·

A front wheel hub assembly disconnection arrangement configured to promote disconnection and outwards movement of a front wheel hub assembly from a vehicle body structure during a small partial overlap collision, including: a steering knuckle breaker and the front wheel hub assembly including a wheel hub and a steering knuckle for connection to a tie rod of a steering mechanism, the steering knuckle arranged on a rearward facing portion of the wheel hub, wherein the steering knuckle breaker is arranged on an A-pillar of the vehicle body structure and includes an impact surface facing the steering knuckle when the wheel hub is in a neutral position, such that in the event of a small overlap collision, the steering knuckle is displaced towards and collides with the steering knuckle breaker, such that the steering knuckle breaker breaks the steering knuckle and disconnects the steering knuckle from the wheel hub.

Axle/suspension systems

An axle/suspension system (1) has an axle (5) supported from the frame of the vehicle by a pair of rigid longitudinal beams (4) pivoted to frame hangers (3). Air springs (7) and shock absorbers (8) connect between the rigid beams (4) and the frame above to control suspension movement. The axle/suspension system is particularly suited as a mid-lift axle on the tractor of a tractor-trailer vehicle. A characteristic feature is the pivotal connection (21) between each hanger (3) and beam (4), which is through a resilient bush (6) having a compliance ratiobeing a ratio of the longitudinal spring rate to the vertical spring rateof at least 10:1.

Chassis System
20200324819 · 2020-10-15 · ·

This disclosure is directed towards a chassis system and more particularly to a spindle cross member for the chassis system which is suitable for an articulated vehicle. At least one of the cross members of the chassis system is spindle cross member comprising a main member, having a middle section and tubular end sections. The middle section has an at least partially curved middle section wall which defines a cavity with an opening for receiving a head of a suspension frame of the chassis system. The tubular end sections are located at each end of the middle section located along a longitudinal axis of the spindle cross member. The spindle cross member further comprises means for pivotally attaching the head of the suspension frame to the middle section wall within the cavity.

Body bound shear connection

A joint is formed between first and second workpieces. The first workpiece defines a cavity, while the second workpiece includes a shear member. The shear member is at least partially inserted into the cavity to secure the first workpiece to the second workpiece. One of the workpieces has a lower hardness and/or shear strength than the other workpiece and includes at least one shear tab with a base portion and an end portion. In inserting the shear member into the cavity, the end portion of the shear tab is broken away from the base portion, leaving the base portion to extend between the cavity and the shear member, thereby securing the first workpiece to the second workpiece.

Longitudinal leaf spring device for suspension of a motor vehicle body

The disclosure relates to a longitudinal leaf spring device for suspension of a body of a motor vehicle. and the longitudinal leaf spring device comprises a longitudinally formed leaf spring element and a coupling device that mechanically couples the leaf spring element to a motor vehicle axle. According to the disclosure, a holder device is provided that has a base holder element for fixed connection to a vehicle chassis and a suspension adjustment element that faces the leaf spring element and is fixedly connected to the base holder element. In this case, the leaf spring element is connected in a front region, fixedly to the base holder element, and the front region is provided to come into mechanical bearing with the suspension adjustment element in at least one operating state.

UPPER ARM STRUCTURE OF SUSPENSION DEVICE
20200307331 · 2020-10-01 ·

A suspension device according to one embodiment of the present disclosure which is equipped with an upper arm which is supported by a knuckle of the vehicle wheel so as to be capable of oscillation, and also supported by a side member which extends in the vehicle front-rear direction so as to be capable of oscillation, wherein: the upper arm has a tip end section positioned at the outside end in the vehicle widthwise direction, and also has arm sections which fork from the tip end section toward the inside in the vehicle widthwise direction; and the upper arm is formed in a manner such that the cross-sectional area of one arm section is greater than the cross-sectional area of the other arm section.

Vehicle suspension

A bolster spring for a vehicle suspension including a base plate, a top plate, elastomeric material positioned between the base plate and the top plate, a first flange comprising a pair of ears having a bottom mounting surface upwardly extending from a first end of the base plate at an angle , and one or more mounting holes positioned in the pair of ears in the first flange adapted for attachment to a pair of ears on an upwardly extending flange on a second bolster spring.

Lower arm supporting bracket and lower arm supporting mechanism including the same

A first bracket supporting a first lower arm includes a front wall part and a rear wall part that face each other in a vehicle longitudinal direction. Respective insertion holes, through which a supporting bolt pivotably supporting the first lower arm is inserted, are formed in the front wall part and the rear wall part so as to face each other. Furthermore, the front wall part includes a fracture starting point formed in a region on an outside, in a vehicle width direction, from a center position of the insertion hole. Consequently, it is possible to separate a front wheel from a vehicle body at the time of collision without providing any fragile part such as a cutout in the lower arm.

Axle/suspension system with down stop

An axle/suspension assembly for a heavy-duty vehicle supported by a frame and a hanger includes a beam, an axle, and a bumper. The axle is supported by a first portion of the beam for pivotal movement of the beam relative to the hanger at a pivot joint. The first portion of the beam is located on a first side of the pivot joint. The bumper is fixed to at least one of the frame, the hanger, and a second portion of the beam. The second portion of the beam is located on an opposite second side of the pivot joint. The bumper includes a portion for contacting structure of at least another of the frame, the hanger, and the beam to limit pivotal movement of the axle in one direction.
