This disclosure relates to a system and method for heating an electrified vehicle. An exemplary electrified vehicle includes a passenger cabin, and an infrared heater configured to radiate heat for conditioning the passenger cabin. The vehicle further includes a heating device configured to heat airflow for conditioning the passenger cabin. Further, the vehicle includes a controller configured to selectively command a change in an output of the heating device based on an amount of power available to the infrared heater.

The textile-based heating band is made of a mixed yarn of basalt and stainless steel. Such a heating device can be installed in a footwell of a vehicle.

A heater device includes: a distance specifying portion that specifies a distance between a sensing subject, i.e., an occupant and a heater main body as a sensed distance; and a moving mechanism that moves the heater main body. The heater device further includes a heater position control portion that controls the moving mechanism such that the distance between the sensing subject, i.e., the occupant and the heater main body is adjusted to a target distance based on the sensed distance, which is specified by the distance specifying portion.

The cover is arranged in a direction in which the radiation heat is radiated and covers the heat generating part. The supporting member supports the cover. The cover is made of a material having a greater infrared transmissivity relative to the supporting member.
