An absorption solution is configured to circulate through the absorption refrigeration cycle. The vapor compression cycle and the absorption refrigeration cycle are substantially integrated. The absorber is fluidly coupled to the compressor and is configured to generate a mixture of refrigerant and absorption solution. The desorber is fluidly coupled to the condenser and is configured to separate the refrigerant from the mixture and increase a pressure of the refrigerant vapor.

An air changeover system for a metal hydride heat pump is disclosed. The system includes metal hydride reactor modules aligned and separated by a partition; a shell containing the reactor modules, the shell is compartmentalized to define separate insulated chambers for each of the reactor modules; and a bearing assembly supporting the modules at a location about the partition, wherein the bearing assembly rotates said modules about an axis during the absorption and the desorption mode. The system reduces thermal inertia and pressure drop in the heat transfer medium while flowing through the heat pump, to enhance the performance and conserve energy.

The present invention relates to an enclosure which is refrigerated and kept at a predetermined set temperature (T.sub.e), containing the evaporator (7) of a refrigerating unit (5). Said enclosure is characterised in that: same comprises a thermochemical system (9) the circuit of which is separate from that of the refrigerating unit and which includes a reactor (1) containing a reactive product capable of absorbing a gas, a condenser and an evaporator arranged in said enclosure (3), the reactive product and the gas being such as to be the subject, when placed in the presence of one another, of a reaction which has the effect of the gas being absorbed by the reactive product and, conversely, to be the subject of a desorption reaction of the gas absorbed by the reactive product when heat is applied thereto once the gas has been absorbed, the thermochemical system having two operating phases, namely a cold-production phase and a regeneration phase, said system comprising measurement (14) and control (19) means which only enable the thermochemical system (9) to enter the regeneration phase if the temperature of the condenser (17) thereof is below a predetermined threshold temperature (T.sub.s).

An in-vehicle absorption heat pump device comprises a regenerator; an in-vehicle heat source heating absorbent in the regenerator; a gas-liquid separator; a condenser condensing gas phase separated from the absorbent; an evaporator evaporating a condensate to form vapor; an absorber for bringing the relatively concentrated absorbent in liquid phase in contact with the gas phase to cause the absorbent to absorb the gas phase and be relatively diluted; an absorbent circulation source circulating the absorbent; a bypass passage connecting a liquid-phase storing portion of the gas-liquid separator and the regenerator while bypassing the absorber; and a bypass transfer source in the bypass passage returning the absorbent in the gas-liquid separator to the regenerator. To dilute absorbent in the absorber, a diluent passage allows the condenser and the absorber to communicate and the condensate in the condenser to be supplied to the absorber through the diluent passage by a dilution element.

An absorption cycle based system is disclosed for using waste heat from a vehicle and providing selective heating, cooling, and dehumidifying to a vehicle compartment. The system includes a waste heat loop in thermal communication with a power generating unit of the vehicle, and a vapor absorption subsystem. The vapor absorption subsystem may include a thermal compressor in thermal communication with the waste heat loop, a radiator unit, a condensing unit for heating the vehicle compartment, an evaporating unit for selectively cooling and dehumidifying the vehicle compartment, and a plurality of valves configured to selectively direct refrigerant through the vapor absorption subsystem. The vehicle compartment may include at least one of a passenger cabin, an electronics housing, a battery pack, an engine compartment, and a refrigeration compartment.
