Hinge system for hardtop vehicles
A hinge system for a vehicle hardtop having a system with hinges (1) that allow a user to open and close a set of removable rigid rooftop panels (5, 6) for a Jeep or other sport utility vehicle without being required to fully remove and store the rigid roof panels. The hinges may be capable of supporting a partially opened position to prevent the panels from falling and slamming shut while opening.
SLIDING LATCH MECHANISM
A structure, for example a vehicle roof, may define an opening receiving one or more removable panels. The removable panels may each include a panel body configured to cover the opening, and a plurality of latches. The latches may each be positioned adjacent a respective edge of the body and configured to translate between different positions. The removable panel may also include an actuator and a plurality of latch links, with each latch link having a first end connected to a corresponding one of the latches, and each latch link having a second end operably linked with the actuator. Rotation of the actuator may drive each of the latches from an open position of the latch to a closed position, while rotation of the actuator in an opposite direction may drive each of the latches from the closed position of the latch to the open position of the latch.
Multi-hinge tonneau cover
A tonneau cover comprising: (a) a plurality of panels including at least a first panel and a second panel; and (b) one or more hinges located between and connecting the plurality of panels, at least one of the one or more hinges being a standing hinge located between the first panel and the second panel; wherein the standing hinge includes one or more rotary stands; and wherein the tonneau cover has a closed position where all of the plurality of panels are coplanar and extend within a plane, and when the first panel is rotated about the standing hinge, the one or more rotary stands lift the first panel and the second panel a distance above the plane.
TONNEAU COVER WITH TORSION ELEMENT
A tonneau cover that includes a first panel, a second panel, a hinge between the first panel and the second panel, and a torsion element between the first panel and the second panel. The torsion element applies an urging force onto one or both of the first panel and the second panel during movement of the first panel and/or the second panel about the hinge.
Cargo storage assembly for sport utility vehicle
A Jeep® cargo enclosure device is comprised of two [left/right] side-arm panels which allow for mounting of the two-part enclosure panels from the rear and toward the front seats of the vehicle, a single rear sliding cargo panel to enclose the space behind the back seat to the tailgate of the vehicle, a four-section hinged top cover panel to enclose the space in front of the rear sliding cargo panel and up to the front seats of the vehicle, and a single additional forward enclosure panel to discourage access from the front of the vehicle when its doors have been removed. All components of this cargo enclosure device work in accord with and without impediment to all ordinary functions of the Jeep® vehicle while installed, including the operation of the soft-top, the use of the vehicle's back seat, and the ability to carry taller cargo items.
RETRACTABLE TRUCK BED COVER HAVING SLAT ARRAY WITH FLEXIBLE JOINER MEMBERS AND SHIELDED SEAMS
A retractable truck bed cover having an array of parallel aluminum slats joined together by connective hinges including leading and trailing edge configuration for improving the security of the cover by covering and concealing the seam between adjacent slats while improving the connective hinge's resistance to the effects of aging and/or exposure to temperature fluctuations. The truck bed cover connective hinge slat is designed to be in an array of discrete slats, which are joined to one another by means of joiner members secured at each end to slat end caps. The distal ends of the joiner members are attached to slat end caps at the distal ends of the slats, thereby preventing the joiner members from shrinking in relationship to the slats due to aging and/or exposure to temperature fluctuations.
A tonneau cover comprising: (a) a first panel and a second panel; (b) a hinge located between and connecting the first panel and the second panel; and (c) a cover extending over all or a portion of the first panel, the second panel, or both, and the hinge so that, when the first panel or the second panel rotates about the hinge, the cover forms a portion of the hinge and maintains the integrity of the hinge.
Multi-hinge tonneau cover
A tonneau cover comprising: (a) a plurality of panels; (b) one or more hinges between each panel of the plurality of panels so that the plurality of panels are rotatably connected together, wherein some or all of the one or more hinges include: (i) a plurality of expansion links that are movably interconnected together, some of the plurality of expansion links including: (1) one or more expansion projections; (2) one or more pockets that receive all or a portion of the one or more expansion projections from an adjacent one of the plurality of expansion links; and (3) one or more expansion stops that restricts movement of the one or more expansion projections from the adjacent one of plurality of the expansion links that extend within the one or more pockets; wherein the one or more hinges rotate so that the one or more hinges form of angle of about 90 degrees or more and about 225 degrees or less.
