A method of manufacturing a material strand (100), particularly for sealing, trimming or fastening of doors (11) or windows (12) of a motor vehicle (10), comprises the steps of: a) extrusion of an extruded strand (200); b) testing the extruded strand (200) after the extrusion, thereby identifying first segments (210) comprising manufacturing defects (211) and second segments (220) being free from manufacturing detects; c) cutting out the first segments (210) from the extruded strand (200), thereby causing faces (222) at the second segments (220); d) joining cut faces (222) of second segments (220) to obtain a joint (102) and to form a material strand (100), the joint (102) having a position within the material strand (100), wherein a minimum distance (d) is maintained between the positions of adjacent joints (102); e) identifying the position of each joint (102); and f) forming a transport unit (110) having a predetermined maximum length by winding the material strand (100).

Sealing structure for openable roof-equipped vehicle

Corner portions of an upper edge of the rear-side roof 24 close to the side windows protrude toward a front of the vehicle beyond a rear frame portion of the associated side window. Pillars are positioned on the respective corner portions inside the vehicle. Weatherstrips 34 each include a lip portion 34b covering an upper end portion of the associated pillar from outside of the vehicle while the roof is closed. Sealing members 40 are respectively provided on the inside of the corner portions. An extended sealing portion 40b extends from each sealing member 40. The extended sealing portion 40b blocks a gap, formed between the associated corner portion and the associated pillar and intended for the lip portion 34b, while the front-side roof is open. The lip portion 34b of the weatherstrip 34 is sandwiched between the extended sealing portion 40b and the pillar while the roof is closed.

SEALING FRAME PARTS OF AN OPEN ROOF ASSEMBLY

A multi-piece frame for an open roof assembly is manufactured by providing a first frame element having an edge and a first attachment area adjacent to the edge; providing a second frame element having a second attachment area; arranging the first attachment area and the second attachment area at least partly over each other; applying a fluid sealant adjacent to the edge of the first frame element; applying a sealing element on at least one of the first frame element and the second frame element and on the sealant, while the sealant is still at least partly fluid; and curing the sealant to provide a fluid-tight sealing between the first frame element, the second frame element and the sealing element. Thus, fluid tight connection between the sealing element and the sealant is provided in a reliable manner.
