Culture Medium Comprising Microfibrillated Cellulose

The present invention is directed to a culture medium comprising a soilless substrate, microfibrillated cellulose and a hydrophilic or amphiphilic polymer. The present invention is particularly useful in soilless agriculture, such as for horticultural/agricultural use that is based on a soilless substrate such as mineral or glass wool. These types of culture media are often used in greenhouses but may also be used for outdoor horticulture or agriculture.

Seeding and/or planting system

A seed and/or plant system contains a strand-shaped seed and/or plant carrier suspended on a mounting. The seeds and/or the plants are supplied with a liquid via a supply tube. In order for the seed and/or plant locations in the seed and/or plant system to be provided at a distance from one another definable by the manufacturer of the seed and/or plant system in a simple manner, a sleeve is provided on each of the seed and/or plant locations, from which a substrate with the seed and/or the plant is received or receivable and/or which at least partially forms a substrate for the seed and/or the plant, wherein the sleeve is formed from the or around the seed and/or plant carrier.

Plant growth system

A plant growth system is provided, which comprises: one or more plant growth substrates (1); one or more detectors (7) arranged to monitor nutrient levels of at least one of the plant growth substrates; at least one irrigation device (6) arranged to supply water to the plant growth substrates; and control means (9) connected to said detectors and said at least one irrigation device. The supply of water by the at least one irrigation device is controlled by the control means in dependence on the monitored nutrient levels. In this manner, the water and nutrient levels of the substrates can be accurately controlled.

A self-contained closed aquaponics system comprises an aquarium tank attached side-by-side to a water container for growing plants, having a shared side. An electrically powered water pump streams the water from the aquarium tank via a pipe to the bottom of a compartment in the water container. When the water in the water tank exceeds a pre-set water level, the water are poured back to the aquarium tank via a recess or slit in the shared side. The compartment may comprise a bio-filter that is a sponge filter, a foam cartridge filter and the undergravel filter. The aquarium tank or the water container may be rectangular or cuboid shaped. A cover adapted to cover the water container may include multiple openings for mounting plants in pot nets therein, where roots of the plants are fed from the fish excretions in the aquarium tank after being filtered by the bio-filter.
