Electric axle assembly

An electric axle assembly having dual motors and dual disconnects allowing for selectably disconnecting either one of the motors so that either motor may operate as the primary drive motor. Each of the dual motors is coupled to a layshaft, and each disconnect is positioned between a gear reduction at the output of the motor and a gear reduction connected to the layshaft. The layshaft is coupled to a differential via a clutch and gear set, the gear set providing a two-speed transmission for power delivered from the layshaft to the differential.

DIFFERENTIAL APPARATUS

A differential apparatus includes a differential mechanism, a differential case that accommodates the differential mechanism, and a clutch mechanism that transmits a driving force between the differential case and the differential mechanism. The clutch mechanism includes a slide member movable inside the differential case in an axial direction and an actuator. The slide member has a first meshable portion at one end in the axial direction, is allowed move relative to the differential mechanism in the axial direction, and is prevented from rotating relative to the differential mechanism. The differential case includes a first case member and a second case member that are united to form the differential case. The first case member integrally includes a second meshable portion and a flange portion that the ring gear is fastened to. When the actuator is activated the first meshable portion meshes with the second meshable portion so that the differential case and the slide member are coupled to present a relative rotation between the differential case and the slide member.

DIFFERENTIAL APPARATUS

A differential apparatus includes a differential mechanism, a differential case that accommodates differential mechanism, and a clutch mechanism that transmits a driving force between the differential case and the differential mechanism. The clutch mechanism includes a slide member movable inside the differential case in an axial direction and an actuator for moving the slide member in the axial direction. The actuator is located outside the differential case. The slide member includes a first meshable portion and an engaging portion engaging with a pinion shaft of the differential mechanism. The differential case has a second meshable portion to mesh with the first meshable portion and a wall portion having multiple insertion holes for transmitting a moving force of the actuator to the slide member. The slide member is located between the second meshable portion and the wall portion.

Drive axle system

A drive axle system having a one-way freewheel clutch. The one-way freewheel clutch is configured to transmit torque between first and second axle assembles when an interaxle differential unit is unlocked. The one-way freewheel clutch transmits torque to one of the first axle assembly and the second axle assembly when the interaxle differential unit is locked.

Axle disconnect and differential lock combination

An axle disconnect and differential locking system for single or multiple axle vehicles which allows the vehicle to selectively engage and disengage an axle half shaft from the differential side gear. Additionally, the system allows the vehicle to selectively switch between locked and unlocked differential driving modes. The system has a first position, a second position and a third position. At the first position, the system is not meshingly engaged with the differential side gear or the differential case. At the second position, the system is meshingly engaged with the differential side gear but is not meshingly engaged with the differential case. At the third position, the system is engaged with the differential side gear and the differential case. In one embodiment the system is a sliding collar. According to another embodiment, the system includes an axle disconnect collar, a differential locking collar and a biasing member disposed therebetween.

Axle Assembly

An axle assembly and method of reworking an axle assembly. The axle assembly has an axle housing and a differential carrier assembly. A central portion of the axle housing has an opening that is defined by an axle flange that has a first mating surface. The differential carrier assembly has a differential mounted on a carrier. The carrier has a carrier flange that has a second mating surface. The first mating surface is sealed to the second mating surface by seal. At least one of the first and second mating surfaces includes a groove.

DRIVE UNIT WITH AN ELECTROMOTIVE POWER UNIT AND A TRANSMISSION

A drive unit includes a housing having first and second chambers. An electromotive drive is disposed in the first chamber and including a hollow rotor shaft. A transmission is disposed in the second chamber and includes an output shaft extending through the rotor shaft such that a gap is formed. The transmission further includes a gearing arrangement that operably couples the output shaft to the rotor shaft and reduces a speed ratio between the rotor shaft and the output shaft so that the output shaft rotates slower than the rotor shaft when operating. The gearing arrangement includes a first element fixed to the rotor shaft and a second element that rotates slower than the first element when operating. An annular clearance is defined between the first and second elements. An annular seal has a first portion engaging with the first element and a second portion engaging with the second element.

A method of providing road and vehicle diagnostics. The method includes providing a vehicle axle system having a first axle half shaft housing, a second axle half shaft housing and a differential housing. Attached one or more of said housings is one or more tri-axis accelerometers. In communication with the accelerometers is one or more data processors operably configured to receive and analyze data from the accelerometers. An occurrence of one or more road events is determined by one or more spikes in the Z-direction of said data collected from said accelerometers. A depth of the road event is determined by a magnitude of said positive and negative changes in acceleration of said spike in said Z-direction and a length of road event is determined by a span of said one or more spikes in said Z-direction. Once the road event is identified the time and geographic location of the road event is identified.

VEHICLE DRIVE TRANSMISSION AND ELECTRICALLY ASSISTED STEERING SYSTEM

A transmission for a vehicle, particularly a skid-steered vehicle, that employs motive power from a prime mover delivered through an input shaft to drive left and right drive shafts at a nominal speed and input power from an electric motor to vary the speed of the left and right drive shafts according to steering commands from a steering control structure. The speed of the left and right drive shafts is directly related to a speed of the input shaft and the nominal speed of the left or right drive shaft is varied upwardly or downwardly by a ratio of the speed of the steering shaft via a speed varying structure. The speed of the left and right drive shafts is simultaneously varied in opposite directions (i.e. upwardly and downwardly) relative to the nominal speed by an equal number of rotations.
