The disclosure includes embodiments for providing traffic situation awareness for a driver of an autonomous vehicle. In some embodiments, the autonomous vehicle is a highly autonomous vehicle (HAV). A method implemented by the HAV includes, according to some embodiments, analyzing external sensor data recorded by one or more external sensors of the HAV to identify a traffic situation. The external sensor data describes one or more measurements of a physical environment external to the HAV. The method includes generating graphical data describing visual feedback that visually depicts information describing the traffic situation. The method includes providing the graphical data to an interface device to cause the interface device to display the visual feedback. The interface device is communicatively coupled to the HAV and operable to receive the graphical data from the processor of the HAV. The visual feedback provides the traffic situation awareness to the driver of the HAV.

A vehicle display control device includes a memory and a processor coupled to the memory. The processor is configured to: recognize a traffic regulation mark provided on a traveling path of a car, the traffic regulation mark indicating traffic regulation; specify a valid regulation range used as a valid range of regulation indicated by the traffic regulation mark based on the recognized traffic regulation mark; and control a display device mounted on the car to display regulations information on a display area, the regulations information including contents of regulation indicated by the recognized traffic regulation mark. The processor is configured to switch displaying the regulations information into another upon satisfying a predetermined condition in a case where the valid regulation range is not specified.

A head-up display device displays information to a driver in a form of a virtual image by projecting display light onto a reflection member. The head-up display device includes a display device which displays a virtual image of a first display image in a first display plane by emitting display light including the first display image and which displays virtual images of a plurality of second display images in a plurality of second display planes by emitting display light beams including the plurality of second display images, respectively. The first display plane is substantially perpendicular to a reference plane. The second display planes are substantially perpendicular to the reference plane and are arranged in a front-rear direction of the driver in a layered manner, and in which the virtual images of the plurality of second display images are displayed so as to be arranged along the reference plane.

An ultrasonic haptic control system for a motor vehicle is provided. The system includes a steering wheel assembly comprising a ring-shaped member configured to be held by an occupant of the vehicle, and rotated about a central axis in order to steer the vehicle; and a plurality of ultrasound emitters associated with the steering wheel. The ultrasound emitters are configured to focus ultrasound waves within a central region about which the ring-shaped member circumferentially extends and/or radially outside of and adjacent to the ring-shaped member. The focused ultrasound waves are configured to form one or more haptic control surfaces. A method of operating a haptic control system is also provided.
