DISPLAY ARTICLES COMPRISING VARIABLE TRANSMITTANCE COMPONENTS AND METHODS OF OPERATING THE SAME
The present disclosure describes glass articles comprising a glass substrate and a variable transmittance component disposed on the glass substrate. The variable transmittance component comprises an electrically responsive material configured to switch between a first transmission state and a second transmission state in response to a change in voltage applied to the variable transmittance component. The variable transmittance component is electrically adjustable between a first configuration, in which at least a portion of the electrically responsive material is in the first transmission state such that a first average transmittance of a region of the glass article including the portion is less than or equal to 25% and a second configuration, in which the portion of the electrically responsive material is in the second transmission state and the region comprises a second average transmittance that is greater than or equal to 40%. In the first configuration, a deadfronting effect is realized.

(2) The type A hardness (momentary value) measured by a method in accordance with JIS K6253 is 60 to 90. (3) The thickness is not less than 300 m and not more than 2 mm. (4) The total light transmittance measured by a method in accordance with JIS K7361 is 3 to 60%.
Shaped part and method for producing a shaped part
A method for producing a shaped part that includes: a decorative layer having a front/visible side and a rear/opposite side. The decorative layer has a recess extending into the decorative layer from the rear side. The shaped part includes an illumination and/or display unit with one or more illumination/display elements for displaying a notification on the front side, where the illumination and/or display unit comprises a base body made of a light-conducting material, the illumination and/or display elements are embedded in the base body, the base body is arranged at least partially in the recess in the decorative layer, the display elements are embedded in the base body, and the base body is arranged in the recess. Thus, light emanating from the illumination and/or display element(s) can be guided via the base body, towards the front side, and through the recess.
LIGHT GUIDE-BASED DEADFRONT FOR DISPLAY, RELATED METHODS AND VEHICLE INTERIOR SYSTEMS
Embodiments of a deadfront article for a display are disclosed herein. The deadfront article includes a cover structure having: an inner surface; an outer surface opposite the inner surface; a glass layer located between the inner surface and the outer surface; and a first layer of light transmitting ink or pigment located between the inner surface of the cover structure and the glass layer. The deadfront article also includes a light guide layer having: an inner surface; and an outer surface facing toward the inner surface of the cover structure. A light extraction layer located on at least one of the inner surface and the outer surface of the light guide layer.
