TRIPLOID CANNABIS PLANTS AND METHODS FOR GENERATING SAME
20210251165 · 2021-08-19 ·

The present technology generally relates to a triploid Cannabis plant, triploid Cannabis seeds and to methods for generating such triploid Cannabis plant. The methods comprise crossing a tetraploid Cannabis plant with a diploid Cannabis plant to obtain F1 seeds, and growing a confirmed triploid F1 seed to generate the triploid Cannabis plant. In some embodiments, feminized pollen from a tetraploid Cannabis plant is crossed with a female diploid Cannabis plant.

METHODS AND COMPOSITIONS RELATED TO IMPROVED NITROGEN USE EFFICIENCY

The present disclosure provides products, compositions, and methods for improving nitrogen use efficiency in tobacco plants, including e.g., Burley tobacco. This disclosure further provides genetic markers for tracking enhanced nitrogen use efficiency phenotypes in tobacco plants and for introgressing enhanced nitrogen use efficiency phenotypes into tobacco plants. The disclosure also provides tobacco plants comprising enhanced nitrogen use efficiency and methods to the creation of tobacco plants comprising enhanced nitrogen use efficiency.

METHOD OF ENHANCING LIPID PRODUCTION IN ALGAE AND APPLICATIONS THEREOF

The present disclosure relates to the field of algal cultivation and biofuels. Particularly, the present disclosure relates to a method of enhancing lipid production during algal culturing. Particularly, the present disclosure relates to a method of enhancing neutral lipid and total lipid production by maintaining algae in a thin layer cultivation system and exposing said algae maintained in the thin layer cultivation system to infra-red (IR) radiation. Said method enhances lipid accumulation in algae, thereby increasing the yield of neutral lipids and total lipids. The method is simple, cost-effective in producing high quantities of algal-derived biofuels, requires shorter time duration for lipid induction and results in no or minimal reduction of biomass.

METHOD FOR INCREASING AMOUNT OF PHENOLIC COMPOUND IN PLANT

An object of the present invention is to provide a method that can effectively/efficiently increase the amount of a phenolic compound such as a polyphenol. The invention provides a method for increasing an amount of a phenolic compound in a plant, or a method for producing a plant containing an increased amount of a phenolic compound, the method comprising irradiating the/a plant with ultraviolet light, wherein a fluence at wavelengths of 270 to 290 nm is 1500 to 50000 μmol/m.sup.2 and a fluence at wavelengths of 310 to 400 nm is less than 50% of that at wavelengths of 270 to 290 nm.

<i>Cannabis </i>plant named ‘OG CITRON’

Disclosed herein are main terpenes of ‘OG CITRON’, which are linalool, limonene, myrcene, beta-caryophyllene, alpha-bisabolol, alpha-humulene, and beta-pinene. Also, the present invention provides the estimated concentration of the THC.sub.max, CBD.sub.max, and CBG.sub.max, about 9.90-12.66%, about 5.50-9.23%, and about 0.08-0.78%, respectively, at the time of assaying metabolites from flower samples of ‘OG CITRON’.

ALTERATION OF TOBACCO ALKALOID CONTENT THROUGH MODIFICATION OF SPECIFIC CYTOCHROME P450 GENES

Compositions and methods for reducing the level of nornicotine and N-nitrosonornicotine (NNN) in Nicotiana plants and plant parts thereof are provided. The compositions comprise isolated polynucleotides and polypeptides for cytochrome P450s that are involved in the metabolic conversion of nicotine to nornicotine in these plants. Expression cassettes, vectors, plants, and plant parts thereof comprising inhibitory sequences that target expression or function of the disclosed cytochrome P450 polypeptides are also provided. Methods for the use of these novel sequences to inhibit expression or function of cytochrome P450 polypeptides involved in this metabolic conversion are also provided. The methods find use in the production of tobacco products that have reduced levels of nornicotine and its carcinogenic metabolite, NNN, and thus reduced carcinogenic potential for individuals consuming these tobacco products or exposed to secondary smoke derived from these products.
