The main cushion (3) of an automobile seat (e.g. the seat pan cushion, or a backrest cushion) is provided with a shield (2). The shield surrounds at least part of the lateral sides of the main cushion and is formed of a less compressible (i.e. harder) foam than the main cushion, such that when the seat is upholstered, creases in the upholstery are reduced/prevented and gapping is avoided.

Vehicle seating assembly having abrasion resistant bolster insert

A vehicle seating assembly includes a seatback frame. A bolster insert is positioned on a side bolster of the seatback frame. A foam layer is positioned over the seatback frame. A trim cover is positioned over the foam layer. The foam layer and the trim cover are contoured to expose the bolster insert.

DEVICE FOR REDUCTION OF VERTICAL PEAK ACCELERATION
20190106027 · 2019-04-11 ·

The present invention relates to a vehicle seat system for reduction of vertical peak acceleration of a person seated in a vehicle seat during impact. The vehicle seat system comprises a seating structure and a trim at least partially enclosing the seating structure. The trim is releasably fastened to the seating structure by means of interconnected trim fastening means comprising at least two parts adapted to release from each other when the vertical peak acceleration exceeds a predetermined limit value, subsequently reducing the vertical peak acceleration. The present invention further relates to a vehicle comprising the vehicle seat system.

MULTI-ZONE SEAT SUSPENSION

A suspension member for a seat assembly includes a plurality of zones which define spatially varying properties of the suspension member. Each of the zones produces a response to an occupant load imposed on the seat assembly by a seated occupant, where the response includes one or more of a stiffness response, an energy dissipation response, and a thermal response. The response produced by each zone is different from the response produced from any other of the zones. The suspension member can be made of a homogenous material or made of a combination of materials such that each zone is made of a different material. The suspension member can include a textile material formed by weaving, knitting or crocheting. At least one zone of the suspension member can include one or more apertures.

Seat core member, seat portion, and seat

A seat core member of a seat portion provided with the seat core member made of a hard synthetic resin foam and a cushion layer made of a soft synthetic resin foam and covering the seat core member is provided, and the seat core member includes a plurality of ridges extending in a rising direction of the seat core member in a rising portion of the seat core member being in contact with the cushion layer and opposing to calves of a body is formed.

VEHICLE SEAT ASSEMBLY AND METHOD OF FORMING

A component for a vehicle seat assembly, a seat assembly, and a method of forming a seat assembly are provided. A unitary foam cushion has a first side, and a second side opposite to the first side to support an occupant. A former extends outwardly from the second side of the foam cushion to a distal end spaced apart from the foam cushion. The former cooperates with the second side of the foam cushion to define an open channel. The open channel is sized to receive a seam of a trim cover assembly. The former defines a first side wall of the open channel, and the second side of the foam cushion defines a second side wall of the open channel. The first side wall defined by the former faces away from the second side of the foam cushion.

The disclosed invention will prevent or lessen injury to passengers when used as a supplemental safety device designed to work in combination with existing safety features found in transport vehicles. Family vans or SUVs have seats that are closest to the bumper that use a separate chassis with no crunch/crumble zones, offering minimal or no protection during rear-end collisions. In 2012 Ford Motor analysis stated, when a minivan with a third-row occupant is hit from behind, the occupant is usually a child, is killed at least half of the time. The disclosed invention will decrease harmful or deadly forces which drive the occupants backwards during rear-end collisions and will change this tragic outcome if the force is diminished by 70%, it may save lives.
