APPARATUS FOR CONTROLLING VEHICLE AND METHOD THEREOF

An apparatus for controlling a vehicle capable of performing autonomous driving is provided. The apparatus includes an autonomous driving device that executes the autonomous driving and generates a transition demand when it is impossible to execute the autonomous driving. A driving controller performs a minimum risk maneuver (MRM) of applying a deceleration pattern differently depending on a driving environment of the vehicle, when the transition demand is generated, but when driving manipulation by a driver does not occur. A subsequent safety ensuring function is performed according to the MRM for the driver to recognize the MRM, and a drive mode of the vehicle is changed to a drive mode with a rapid response speed to acceleration or steering.

Dynamic vehicle warning signal emission

A vehicle computing system may implement techniques to dynamically modify warning signals from a vehicle to ensure that an object (e.g., dynamic object) is notified of the vehicle operation. A vehicle computing system may emit a first warning signal including an audio and/or visual signal and may detect an object reaction to the first warning signal. Based on a determination that the object reaction does not substantially alter the ability for the vehicle to overcome the object, the vehicle computing system may modify a frequency, volume, luminosity, color, shape, motion, etc. of the first warning signal to emit a second warning signal. The vehicle computing system may continually modify warning signals until the object reacts according to an expected reaction or becomes irrelevant to the vehicle.

VEHICLE CONTROL DEVICE, METHOD, AND PROGRAM

A vehicle control device facilitates giving a feeling of security to a driver and passengers of an autonomous driving host vehicle M. The vehicle control device includes a recognition unit recognizing circumstances surrounding the vehicle, a travel control unit controlling at least one of steering and acceleration of the vehicle based on the circumstances surrounding the vehicle, an external notification unit notifying the traffic participants recognized by the recognition unit of a behavior of the host vehicle based on a control by the travel control unit, an internal notification unit notifying the driver of the information notified to the traffic participant through the external notification unit when the host vehicle M is within a predetermined area of the intersection, and a notification control unit stopping the notifications when the vehicle is not in the area.

Systems and methods for providing warnings to surrounding vehicles to avoid collisions
11120691 · 2021-09-14 · ·

System, methods, and other embodiments described herein relate to providing a warning from a subject vehicle to surrounding objects about a collision hazard. In one embodiment, a method includes identifying the surrounding objects of a subject vehicle according to sensor data about a surrounding environment of the subject vehicle. The method includes determining a collision probability indicating a likelihood of collision between a first object and a second object of the surrounding objects. The method includes, in response to the collision probability satisfying a collision threshold, communicating, by the subject vehicle, an alert to at least one of the surrounding objects about the collision hazard associated with the surrounding objects colliding.

Lift detection and alert assembly

A lift detection and alert assembly for detecting lifting of a tow vehicle and for alerting a crane operator includes an alert module and a sensing module, which are mountable to a tow vehicle having a load engaged thereto. The alert module provides notification to an operator of a crane that is engaged to and operable upon the load. The sensing module detects vertical movement of the tow vehicle and signals the alert module thereof. The alert module notifies the operator of the crane in event the tow vehicle is being lifted in conjunction with the load to prevent damage to the tow vehicle and injury to a driver thereof. The present invention is anticipated for use with terminal tractors that are utilized to move shipping containers at cargo yards, warehouse facilities, and intermodal facilities.
