A light system may be provided for a vehicle. The light system may include a light source for signaling a surrounding vehicle, a communication device for communicating with the surrounding vehicle, and a controller coupled to the light source and the communication device. The communication device may receive a vehicle information message from the surrounding vehicle. Based on the vehicle information message, the controller may determine at least one of a velocity and an acceleration rate of the surrounding vehicle, analyze the at least one of the velocity and the acceleration rate to determine a default state or an impact condition, and when the impact condition is determined, automatically activate the light source to signal the surrounding vehicle.

A lamp unit for a vehicular lamp system performing selective light irradiation to the surroundings of the own vehicle includes: a light source; an optical shutter part that modulates light emitted from the light source; and an optical system that projects the light transmitted through the optical shutter part. The optical shutter part includes: polarizers; a liquid crystal element disposed between the polarizers and where the initial alignment of liquid crystal molecules is horizontally aligned and causes an alignment change in the in-plane direction upon electric field application; a first optical plate which is a positive A-plate disposed between the polarizers closer to the light source and the liquid crystal element; and a second optical plate which is a positive C-plate disposed between the first optical plate and the liquid crystal element.

When a request for lane change to a target lane occurs under a situation where the vehicle is travelling on the own lane, the irradiation control apparatus lightens a second region using the irradiating apparatus, the second region including a region-at-a-lane-change-side positioned at a target lane side with respect to the first region and a reduced region which is a region where the first region is reduced to a region near the vehicle as well as control the irradiating apparatus so that illuminance in the reduced region becomes less than or equal to illuminance in the reduced region before the request for lane change occurs.

A rear lamp includes a reverse light, a direction indicator light, a brake light and a taillight, which are provided inside a lamp case. The rear lamp includes left and right rear lamps and has a peripheral area and a center area. The peripheral area is disposed on the outer side of the center area. The reverse light, the brake right and the taillight are positioned in the center area. The direction indicator light is positioned in the peripheral area and is formed as an LED array in the shape of a C or inverted-U. The left rear lamp has a U-turn indicator light and a left turn indicator light. The right rear lamp has a right turn indicator light. When the U-turn indicator light activates, the entire LED array turns on. When the left turn indicator light activates, only a part of the LED array turns on.
