METHOD FOR CONTROLLING A VARIABLE LIGHT DISTRIBUTION
20220289102 · 2022-09-15 ·

A method for controlling variable light distribution of a headlight of a vehicle involves adjusting the light distribution relative to an intersection area when the intersection area is approached. The adjustment of the light distribution is updated depending on the distance of the vehicle from the intersection area.

Reliability of an in-vehicle headlight is improved by changing a light distribution pattern without using any mechanical configuration. The in-vehicle headlight includes a laser light source 1, a spatial light modulator 3, a spatial-light-modulator controller, and a projection lens 5. The laser light source 1 emits a laser light beam 10. The spatial light modulator 3 modulates a phase distribution of the laser light beam 10 emitted by the laser light source 1. The spatial-light-modulator controller is provided in a headlight controller 36, and controls the spatial light modulator 3. The spatial-light-modulator controller controls the spatial light modulator 3 so as to modulate the phase distribution of the laser light beam 10, and changes the light distribution pattern projected from the projection lens 5.

The present disclosure relates to an illumination system for a motor vehicle for illuminating a carriageway section. The aim is to illuminate the carriageway section in such a way that irritations for other road users are avoided as far as possible. The illumination system includes an information system for providing or detecting a stopping point, an illumination device for projecting a calculated light distribution onto the carriageway section, and a control unit for calculating a light distribution, wherein the calculated light distribution is a one-piece area. The one-piece area begins from a predetermined starting section, which constitutes a proximal lighting section relative to the motor vehicle and does not extend beyond the stopping point. This leads to a shortening of a lane light of the motor vehicle, so that said lane light does not illuminate the lane beyond the stopping point. This is advantageous in particular for crossroads.

Vehicle lamp controllers, methods for controlling vehicle lamps and vehicle lamp systems including the lamp controller and the lamps can be configured to detect whether a traveling road is a straight road or a curved road. When the traveling road is the curved road, the lamp system can direct light distribution patters from an initially light distribution angle along the traveling road with reference to a first threshold. When the traveling road is the straight road, the lamp system can direct light distribution patters from the initially light distribution angle along the traveling road with reference to a second threshold, which is larger than the first threshold. The second threshold can be changed so as to maintain preferable light distribution patterns. Thus, the present invention can provide the vehicle lamp controllers, the controlling methods for the vehicle lamps and the vehicle lamp system to form the preferable light distribution patterns.
