A virtual visor system is disclosed that includes a visor having a plurality of independently operable pixels that are selectively operated with a variable opacity. A camera captures images of the face of a driver or other passenger and, based on the captured images, a controller operates the visor to automatically and selectively darken a limited portion thereof to block the sun or other illumination source from striking the eyes of the driver, while leaving the remainder of the visor transparent. The virtual visor system advantageously updates the optical state with blocker patterns that including padding in excess of what is strictly necessary to block the sunlight. This padding advantageously provides robustness against errors, allows for a more relaxed response time, and minimizes frequent small changes to the position of the blocker in the optical state of the visor.

In general, the modified procedures reduce distracting or frustrating updates to the optical state of the visor.

The bottom of the stand can have a rubber coating to prevent the case from slipping when the case adheres to a metal. The stand is configured to support the weight of the apparatus and prop the mobile device up for viewing. The stand can also be configured to be a receive a mechanical element of a vehicle such as a wheelchair.

Systems and method for mounting a vehicle topper to a roof of a vehicle are provided. A first and second cross bar are secured to the roof of the vehicle. A housing for first and second electronic displays of the vehicle topper is secured to the cross bars by way of mounting brackets. Wiring is extended between the vehicle topper and an outside power source to establish an electrical pathway between the power source and the first and second electronic displays when connected.

The electronic control unit is configured to generate an object mark based on an output of the object detection device and identify the object mark. The display device displays the surrounding vehicle as a vehicle icon when the object mark is identified as a surrounding vehicle by the electronic control unit. The electronic control unit is configured to determine a position of the vehicle icon with respect to the vehicle on the display device and offset a center position of the vehicle icon from a center position of the object mark identified as the surrounding vehicle based on a predetermined size of the vehicle icon.
