A bird feeder with a plurality of feed openings in the seed tube base, and a deflector located above the seed tube base, the deflector extending outwardly above the feed openings such that the deflector is able to deflect water flowing downwardly from said seed tube to a location intermediate the feed openings.

An adjustable feeder pan system for feeding poultry and a related method is provided. The feeder pan system includes a cone portion, an excluder portion that includes a number of anti-rake and radially disposed fins, a skirt, a feed pan, a cap, and optionally a feed shut-off component. The cone includes a pair of stops that may selectively engage with one of a number of pairs of corresponding slots of varying depths on the excluder portion so as to provide multiple feed levels as desired and depending upon the size and age of the poultry being fed.

A baffle assembly for a pole includes a clamping structure adapted to be positioned about a pole. The clamping structure includes a plurality of laterally spaced mounting hooks removably joined along the longitudinal axis. The plurality of laterally spaced mounting hooks extends from a proximal end to a distal end defining a length of the clamping structure. A mounting strap includes a first end attached to the proximal end of the clamping structure. The mounting strap extends to a second end and includes a fastener formed thereon. A bell housing includes opposing open ends. The bell housing is positioned about the pole and about the clamping structure wherein the bell housing is supported by the mounting hooks. The length of the clamping structure is adjusted by removal of selected mounting hooks of the plurality of laterally spaced mounting hooks from the distal end.

The clamping structure includes a plurality of laterally spaced mounting hooks removably joined along the longitudinal axis. The plurality of laterally spaced mounting hooks extends from a proximal end to a distal end defining a length of the clamping structure. A mounting strap includes a first end attached to the proximal end of the plurality of laterally spaced mounting hooks. The mounting strap extends to a second end and includes a fastener formed thereon. Bell housing includes opposing open ends. The bell housing is positioned about the pole and about the clamping structure wherein the bell housing is supported by the mounting hooks. The length of the clamping structure is adjusted by removal of selected mounting hooks of the plurality of laterally spaced mounting hooks from the distal end.

Systems and methods are provided for capturing images of animals for the purpose of identifying the animal. A camera can be positioned to capture images of an animal at a feeding station. A member can be positioned on the opposite side of the feeding station from the camera to provide a common background for the images captured by the camera. When an image is captured by the camera, a determination is made as to whether an animal is present in the image. If an animal is determined to be present in the image, a segmentation algorithm can be used to remove (or make black) the background pixels from the image leaving only the pixels associated with the animal. The image with only the animal pixels can be provided to animal recognition software for identification of the animal. In some embodiments captured images can be used to create synthetic images for training without requiring segmentation for the identification process.

A perch extension for a bird feeder having an elongated perch body that defines a cavity that is adapted to fit at least partially over a perch on a bird feeder. The perch extension may optionally have a support member that is coupled to the perch body, and is further adapted to fit at least partially around the seed container of the bird feeder. The perch extension may optionally define protuberances to provide a snap-fit or press-fit engagement with the bird feeder perch.
