A front bumper includes a bumper fascia, an upper panel, and a shock absorbing member and a rigidity member in the interior of the upper panel. The shock absorbing member is formed in a hat shape in cross section by a front wall, an upper wall (a front-side upper wall and a rear-side upper wall), a rear wall, and a lower wall. The rigidity member includes an upper end portion fixed to the upper wall, a lower end portion fixed to the lower wall, and an intermediate portion connecting the upper end portion and the lower end portion in the vehicle up-down direction. The intermediate portion is spaced apart from the rear wall in the vehicle front-rear direction.

Bumper assembly

A bumper assembly includes a bumper beam elongated in a cross-vehicle direction and a bumper that is plastic. The bumper is elongated in the cross-vehicle direction and is affixed to the bumper beam. The bumper beam is rigid relative to the bumper. The bumper defines a cavity enclosed by the bumper. The cavity is elongated in the cross-vehicle direction.

MEMBER FOR RATCHETING BETWEEN A MOVING COMPONENT AND ADJACENT STRUCTURE

A vehicle comprises: a vehicle body having a front and a rear; a vehicle chassis supporting the vehicle body, the vehicle chassis including a chassis portion; a component attached to the front of the vehicle body; and a member comprising (i) an elongate portion having teeth, and (ii) an attachment portion attaching the member to one of the chassis portion or the component, wherein the member is configured for ratcheting of the teeth against an edge of the other of the chassis portion or the component due to relative movement between the component and the chassis portion.

VEHICLE FRONT END STRUCTURE

A vehicle front end structure includes a front bumper assembly, an overrider bracket, and a vehicle sensor. The front bumper assembly has a reinforcement bracket and a first energy absorbing member attached to forward portions of a vehicle body structure. The reinforcement bracket is located rearward of and spaced apart from a forward section of the first energy absorbing member defining a space therebetween. The first energy absorbing member further has a first lateral portion and a second lateral portion with a central gap defined therebetween. The overrider bracket is installed to the reinforcement bracket and is located within the central gap between the first lateral portion and the second lateral portion. The overrider bracket defines a pocket area with a second energy absorbing member installed within the pocket area. The vehicle sensor is supported to vehicle body structure and positioned above the second energy absorbing member.

VEHICLE

A vehicle may include: an external fender covering a front fender panel; a bumper; and a retainer fixing the external fender and the bumper to the front fender panel, in which the external fender includes an external fender end, the bumper includes a bumper end, and the external fender end and the bumper end are disposed in vicinity to and face each other, the retainer is disposed near a boundary between the external fender end and the bumper end, the retainer is covered by the external fender and the bumper, the external fender end includes an external fender flange protruding inward of the vehicle, the bumper end includes a bumper flange protruding inward of the vehicle, the retainer includes a groove extending along the boundary between the external fender end and the bumper end, and the external fender flange and the bumper flange are inserted in the groove.

EXHAUST FINISHER ASSEMBLY FOR A VEHICLE

An exhaust finisher assembly for a vehicle includes an exhaust finisher and a deflector. The exhaust finisher is configured to be connected to a rear bumper fascia of the vehicle. The deflector is connected to the exhaust finisher. The deflector includes a first portion connected to the exhaust finisher and a second portion extending outwardly from the first portion.

A pedestrian contact detection apparatus, for a vehicle, includes a bumper beam, an absorber, an upper rib, a lower rib, a contact detection sensor, and a cover. The upper rib and the lower rib each protrude from a front face of the absorber toward a vehicle front side and each extend discontinuously in a vehicle width direction. The lower rib is disposed on a vehicle lower side of the upper rib. A pressure tube extends in the vehicle width direction and is disposed between the upper rib and the lower rib. The cover covers a front face of the absorber from the vehicle front side, includes a support having insertion holes through which the upper and lower ribs are disposed, and is disposed on the vehicle front side of and adjacent to the bumper beam. The support supports the pressure tube from a vehicle rear side.

A vehicle front structure includes a grille stay located behind a bumper panel having a grille opening, and a stay cover disposed to cover a rear portion of the grille stay. The grill stay faces an upper portion of the bumper panel from behind. The grille stay includes a front portion and a rear portion, and the rear portion has a smaller cross sectional area than the front portion. The grill stay further includes a step portion at a boundary between the front portion and the rear portion. The stay cover includes a front end that is disposed to face a rear face of the step portion.

Self-diagnosing pedestrian protection sensor system for a vehicle

A self-diagnosing sensor system for a vehicle is provided. The vehicle has a bumper with fascia material. The sensor system includes an elongated, deflectable cable disposed in the bumper generally adjacent to the fascia material. A tensioning and sensing unit is coupled to each end of the cable and fixed to the vehicle. Each unit includes a tension sensor electrically connected with an ECU of the vehicle such that the ECU receives signals from the tension sensors regarding tension in the cable, indicative of 1) whether the bumper has been impacted based on deflection of the cable from a sensing position, or 2) whether damage to the cable or a tensioning and sensing unit has occurred.
