Moveable internal shock-absorbing energy dissipation padding in an autonomous vehicle
Described herein is utilization of nontransparent Shock-Absorbing Energy Dissipation Padding (SAEDP) in an autonomous on-road vehicle. In one embodiment, the vehicle includes a side window located at eye level of an occupant who sits in the vehicle. The side window enables the occupant to see the outside environment. A motor is configured to move the SAEDP over a sliding mechanism between first and second states. A processor is configured to command the motor to move the SAEDP from the first state to the second state responsive to an indication that a probability of an imminent collision reaches a threshold. In the first state, the SAEDP does not block the occupant's eye level view to the outside environment, and in the second state, the SAEDP blocks the occupant's eye level view to the outside environment in order to protect the occupant's head against hitting the side window during collision.
TORSO SEATBELT SYSTEM
A seat includes a seat base including a first side and a second side, and a seat back including a first side portion and a second side portion. The seat back is pivotable between an upright configuration and a highly reclined configuration. A torso belt system is arranged at the seat system. The torso belt system includes a retractor mechanism positioned adjacent to one of the seat base and the seat back. An amount of flexible webbing includes a first end anchored at the retractor mechanism and a second end. A selectable anchor is connectable to the second end of the amount of flexible webbing. The selectable anchor is selectively arranged in a first position at the seat base when the seat back is in the upright seating configuration and in a second position at the seat back when the seat back is in the highly reclined seating configuration.
Vehicle airbag assembly
A vehicle includes a body defining a passenger cabin with a front end, the body having a bulkhead at the front end of the passenger cabin. The vehicle includes a telescoping member supported by the bulkhead and movable from a stowed position to a deployed position. The vehicle includes an airbag supported by the telescoping member and movable from the stowed position to the deployed position, the airbag inflatable from an uninflated position to an inflated position.

Active control of anti-submarining automotive protective devices
An airbag assembly including an inflator to supply inflation gas and an airbag cushion configured to expand and deploy toward a seating position of a vehicle, the airbag cushion including a main chamber, a secondary chamber coupled to the main chamber, and a tether passing through the main chamber into the secondary chamber, wherein the tether is configured to be released to allow the secondary chamber to be inflated.
Airbag size based on seat recline
A system includes a seat moveable between an upright position and a reclined position, and an airbag module mounted to the seat. The airbag module includes an airbag inflator, an airbag, and a panel attached to a folded portion of the airbag. A tether is coupled to the folded portion via the panel, the tether being retracted relative to the airbag module when the seat is in the upright position and extended when the seat is in the reclined position.
Vehicle airbag assembly with tethered airbag
An assembly includes a dash, an inflator supported by the dash, and an airbag supported by the dash. The airbag is inflatable to an inflated position. The airbag in the inflated position is selectively deployable to one of a first position or a second position spaced away from the dash relative to the first position. An inflation tube fluidly connects the inflator and the airbag. An airbag tether connects the airbag to the dash in the first position and the second position. The airbag tether is selectively extendable from a first length when the airbag is in the first position and a second length longer than the first length when the airbag is in the second position.
