Arrangement for mounting occupant protection device
Disclosed herein is a structure for mounting an occupant protection system in a vehicle. The structure includes an electric power steering device (1) and a knee protection air bag assembly (51). The device (1) includes a steering column (18). The assembly (51) includes a bag (53) configured to expand to protect knees (9a) of an occupant (9) seated on a driver's seat (8) of the vehicle. The steering column (18) includes a drive member (26) of the device (1). The assembly (51) is located below the drive member (26).
ADAPTIVE AIRBAG FOR PROTECTING OCCUPANTS IN A VEHICLE
An apparatus for helping to protect an occupant of a vehicle includes an airbag configured to be mounted to a support structure of the vehicle. The airbag is inflatable to deploy from a stored condition away from the support structure toward a vehicle seat in which the occupant is seated to one of a first deployed condition in which the airbag is configured for a non-reclined condition of the vehicle seat, and a second deployed condition in which the airbag is configured for a reclined condition of the vehicle seat. The airbag is configured to deploy to the first deployed condition in response to determining a non-reclined condition of the vehicle seat and to the second deployed condition in response to determining a reclined condition of the vehicle seat.
Knee protection airbag device
A knee protection airbag device includes: a case including a circumferential wall part surrounding a protrusion opening and extending in a front side; and an airbag cover, made by rigidity resin, covering the protrusion opening and being connected to the case. The airbag cover includes: a connection wall part which extends forward from a front side of the decorative panel, and is arranged to cover an upper side of an upper wall part on an upper side in the circumferential wall part of the case. The connection wall part includes an engaging hole. The upper wall part includes a metal engaging hook protruding upward to be inserted into the engaging hole. The airbag cover includes a shield part configured to hide the engaging hook from a visual line. The shield part is integrally formed during molding of the airbag cover.
Knee airbag device
A knee airbag device according to the present invention includes: an airbag that restrains a lower extremity of an occupant by expanding and deploying below an instrument panel of a vehicle; and an inflator that supplies expansion gas to the airbag. The airbag includes, when the inside of the vehicle is a first side and the outside of the vehicle is a second side, a first portion positioned on the first side and a second portion positioned on the second side. Furthermore, the first portion of the airbag protrudes more toward the occupant side than the second portion.
FRONT AIRBAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM FOR VEHICLE
A vehicle includes a system including an instrument panel, a knee airbag, and a front airbag assembly. The knee airbag is inflatable downwardly from the instrument panel. The front airbag assembly is inflatable upwardly from the instrument panel. The front airbag assembly may be spaced from a windshield of the vehicle when the front airbag assembly is in the inflated position such that the windshield does not act as a reaction surface for the front airbag assembly, and the front airbag assembly is designed to control the kinematics of the occupant without using the windshield as a reaction surface.
KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLIES
An inflatable knee airbag having a flexible housing is disclosed. An inflatable knee airbag may provide protection for the lower anatomy of an occupant in a vehicle collision event. The disclosed inflatable knee airbag may include components, such as the inflatable airbag cushion, inflator, etc., within a flexible housing supported by a rigid or semi-rigid mounting plate. The flexible housing may conform to the shape of enclosed components, and may support and protect the enclosed components. The flexible housing may be lighter and more cost-effective than conventional housing methods.
KNEE AIRBAG MODULE AND METHOD FOR PACKING A KNEE AIRBAG INTO A HOUSING
A knee airbag module comprising a housing (10) and a knee airbag is described. A first section of the knee airbag following from its first end is rolled into a first direction of rotation when the knee airbag is in its stowed state. In order to optimise the knee airbag for a mounting situation in which a gap is present between the vehicle rearward end of the housing and the lower end of the instrument panel, a second section of the knee airbag following the first section is rolled in a second direction of rotation, contrariwise to the first direction rotation, such that the stowed knee airbag comprises an at least partially rolled package comprising the first section being rolled to a first roll section (50) and the second section being rolled to a second roll section (52)
Vehicle front portion structure
A vehicle front portion structure includes a cover; an absorber provided rearward of the cover of a vehicle, the absorber being configured to absorb energy of a collision between the cover and a collision body while allowing the cover to move rearward; a front grill provided rearward of the cover and above the absorber, the front grill being configured to move rearward along with the cover during the collision between the cover and the collision body; a radar device attached to the front grill; and a deformation limiting member provided outside a radio wave irradiation range of the radar device and in a space between the radar device and the front grill or the cover, the deformation limiting member being configured to limit deformation of the front grill or the cover to the radar device side during the collision between the cover and the collision body.
CURVED AIRBAG AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING
An airbag (10) comprises a plurality of interconnected adjacent inflatable cells, wherein a cell is attached to an adjacent cell by at least two seam lines (31, 32), said lines being spaced from each other to define a cell area, which is comprising a gas passage portion (1c, 2c, 3c, 4c) between said adjacent cells.
KNEE AIRBAG ARRANGEMENT COMPRISING EXTERNAL TETHER
A knee airbag arrangement for a vehicle. The knee airbag arrangement includes an inflatable airbag and an external tether. The airbag is adapted to be inflated to a position between an instrument panel of the vehicle and a knee/shin region of a vehicle occupant. The knee airbag is adapted to form a first deployment mode or a second deployment mode when in a deployed state. The external tether controls deployment of the airbag to the second deployment mode. The depth (D.sub.2) of the airbag in the second deployment mode is greater than a depth (D.sub.1) of the knee airbag in the first deployment mode. A depth of the airbag in a deployed state is a greatest extent of the airbag perpendicular to the instrument panel in the knee/shin region.
