The elongated cushion is configured to deploy from an interior side wall of a vehicle into a passenger compartment of the vehicle to resist upward motion of a leg of an occupant of the vehicle. The restraint is configured to prevent the elongated cushion from rotating upward and toward the side wall when the leg of the occupant contacts an underside surface of the elongated cushion.

VEHICLE FRONT PORTION STRUCTURE

A vehicle front portion structure includes a lower absorber installed in a lower region of a vehicle front portion and having a longer length in a width direction of a vehicle, at least one load bearing member disposed on a rear side of the lower absorber and connected to the lower absorber so as to receive a load transferred from the lower absorber, in which at least a part of the lower absorber is equipped with a reinforcement member, and the reinforcement member is formed, in cross section, in a shape of substantially a wave composed of a series of upward protruding parts protruded upward of the vehicle and downward protruding parts protruded downward of the vehicle, the upward and downward protruding parts alternating along the width direction of the vehicle.

VEHICLE BODY STRUCTURE

A vehicle body structure has: a front plate portion that faces in a vehicle front-rear direction; an inclined portion that obliquely descends rearward from a lower end of the front plate portion and is coupled to a floor panel making up a floor surface of a cabin; an arch-shaped portion located at outer end portions in a vehicle width direction of the front plate portion and the inclined portion and makes up a wheel arch-shaped rear portion of a tire house; a front side frame located inward of the arch-shaped portion in the vehicle width direction and extends from the front plate portion to the inclined portion in the vehicle front-rear direction; and a reinforcement panel placed over the arch-shaped portion. The reinforcement panel is disposed outward in the vehicle width direction of an innermost portion in the vehicle width direction in the arch-shaped portion.

Deployable protection plate

Methods and systems for preventing serious injury or vehicle damage resulting from collisions between automotive vehicles and people, animals, or other objects are described. In some instances, the system may comprise an object detection system configured to detect a human prior to impact with an automotive vehicle comprising the object detection system, and further configured to send a first activation signal upon detection of the human; a first actuator attached to the automotive vehicle; and a protection plate operatively connected to the first actuator and mounted on a structural component of the automotive vehicle; where upon receipt of the first activation signal by the first actuator, the protection plate is deployed from a non-vertical orientation into a vertical orientation and is vertically-positioned between a level of a front bumper of the automotive vehicle and a surface on which the automotive vehicle is traveling.

Provided is an occupant leg restraint device suitable for restraining legs of an occupant when an automobile has an oblique collision. An occupant leg restraint device 1 has an airbag 4 that inflates in front of legs of an occupant in a front seat of an automobile, and an inflator 5 for supplying gas to the lower part of the airbag 4 to inflate the airbag 4. The airbag 4 has a first pane 11 on the occupant side and a second panel 12 on the side opposite thereto. A plurality of pockets 60 recessed from the first panel 11 in the direction away from the occupant are provided in the upper part of the airbag 4. Knees N of the occupant enter the pockets 60, and fit into and engage with the pockets 60, and the lateral movement of the knees N is thereby restrained.

SEAT WITH AIRBAG

A seat includes a seatback including a top portion, a seat bottom coupled to the seatback, an airbag, a tether fixed to the seatback below the top portion and attached to the airbag, and an airbag extension. The airbag is inflatable from an undeployed position in the top portion to a deployed position attached to the top portion and extending in front of a front panel of the seatback. The airbag extension is inflatable from the airbag in the deployed position in front of the seat bottom.

An airbag device includes: a case which stores an inflatable airbag, which includes a peripheral wall section around a protruding opening; an airbag cover which covers the protruding opening, and which includes a side wall section connected to the peripheral wall section; and an exposed connection portion which serves as a connection portion between the side wall section and the peripheral wall section. At the exposed connection portion, the peripheral wall section includes an engaging hook, and the side wall section includes an engaging hole. At the peripheral edge of the engaging hole, a first rib capable of covering the tip end section of the engaging hook protrudes so as to have a height dimension nearly equal to or more than a height dimension of the tip end section of the engaging hook which protrudes from the engaging hole.

AIRBAG TETHER RELEASE

An airbag system includes an airbag. The airbag system includes a base defining a track extending from a first end to a second end. The airbag system includes a carrier releasably fixed to the base and removable from the base at the second end. The airbag system includes a tether extending from the carrier and secured to the airbag. The airbag system includes a spring disposed at the first end. The spring is disposed between the carrier and the base. Upon application of a force to the carrier, e.g., via the tether when the airbag is inflated, the carrier is released from the base and compresses the spring. Upon removal of the force, the spring urges the carrier toward the second end where the carrier is ejected.
