A vehicle air bag device can include an air bag retainer that has at least one clip located adjacent an opening at an outer periphery of the air bag retainer. An air bag chute can be located adjacent the air bag retainer and configured to guide the air bag along a deployment axis during deployment from the air bag retainer. The air bag chute can include a wall including a clip aperture opening located therein. The at least one clip can have an upper surface facing an upper surface of the clip aperture opening, and the upper surface of the at least one clip can be at an acute angle with respect to the deployment axis. The acute angle upper surface can extend from an interior of the air bag chute through the clip aperture and to an exterior of the air bag chute.

STEERING COLUMN INDUCED BREAK AWAY

An assembly includes a steering column and an instrument panel. A bezel is fixed to the instrument panel. A releasable panel is releasably connected to the bezel. A cable extending from the releasable panel to the steering column. In the event of a vehicle impact, the releasable panel releases from the bezel to absorb energy from the steering column.

Crash pad including air-bag-door-opening part

A crash pad including an air-bag-door-opening part is provided, which includes a crash pad base, an air-bag-door-opening part, which is positioned so as to face air-bag doors disposed on the crash pad base, and an opening-inducing groove, which is formed along an opening line of the air-bag-door-opening part.

Knee bolster with variable resistance to forward force

A vehicle comprises: a knee bolster; a movable obstruction disposed forward of the knee bolster; a seating assembly rearward of the knee bolster; a sensor that generates output; and a controller in communication with the sensor that (a) determines the attribute of the passenger from the output that the sensor generates, and (b) either (i) causes the movable obstruction to obstruct forward movement of the knee bolster based on the determined attribute of the passenger, or (ii) causes the movable obstruction not to obstruct the forward movement of the knee bolster based on the determined attribute of the passenger. The attribute of the passenger can be the weight of the passenger. The controller can cause the movable obstruction to obstruct forward movement of the knee bolster because the weight of the passenger is greater than a predetermined threshold weight.

BREAKAWAY MOBILE DEVICE CONNECTION PORT

Disclosed is a breakaway mobile device connection port for a vehicle. The breakaway mobile device connection port includes a socket within a surface of a vehicle, formed by one or more flexible retention members coupled to the surface. The port further includes a ball-type bearing positioned partially within the socket, a female connector positioned in the bearing outside the socket and configured to receive a male connector, and a harness cable coupled to the bearing, linking the female connector to an electrical system or data system of the vehicle. The bearing is configured to swivel on at least one axis within the socket, and an impact force on the male connector that exceeds a first threshold value causes the bearing to be pushed completely into the socket.
