A freeze-resistant watering device has a nipple or ball valve, a heat pipe, a sleeve in tight thermal contact with the nipple, a water-tight connection to a liquid containing container or supply pipe, and an outer shield enclosing an insulating space or insulation material. This device thermally couples a watering nipple or ball valve to a container or supply pipe via a thermal conduction path including bends so that the nipple or ball valve maintains at a temperature that is near the temperature of the liquid in the container or supply pipe. Further, the use of one or more freeze-resistant watering devices with a thermally insulated container in a watering unit with an insulated container or supply pipe provides drinking water to animals, and in particular, birds in sub-freezing and in hot weather.

A hummingbird feeder is provided that includes a nectar container removably coupled to a feeding basin having at least one feed port opening therein and a feed port assembly fitted within the feed port opening. The feed port assembly includes an elastomeric feed port and a feed port accessory. The elastomeric feed port is preferably one molded piece including an ornamentally-shaped head having a diameter greater than the feed port opening and a plug sized to fit snugly within the opening. The outer surface of the plug has at least two ribs longitudinally spaced from one another to enable the feed port to be secured to the basin in at least two different positions including an intermediate position in which the feed port accessory is mounted on the plug and secured between the head and the upper surface of the basin adjacent the feed port opening.

A fluid delivery system for delivering a fluid from an automatic water source to animals housed in cages in high density caging systems may comprise a fluid delivery valve assembly, wherein the fluid delivery valve assembly is adapted to be coupled to the automatic water source to facilitate the provision of fluid to animals housed in the cages. The fluid delivery valve assembly may further comprise a valve body and end cap, which may be joined together, that define a fluid channel. The fluid delivery valve assembly may further comprise sealing elements, a spring element, and an interior stem disposed at least in part in the fluid channel to open and close the fluid channel.

In one implementation, an animal feeder for use in dispensing animal food to birds or other suitable animals includes one or more reservoirs having one or more walls that allow a user to create one or more openings in the walls. The one or more reservoirs may be set on a tray to orient each reservoir to allow birds or other suitable animals to feed from the openings in each reservoir. The reservoirs are disposable and replaceable to provide a re-useable system for feeding birds.

An installation for rearing animals comprises an injector; a water inlet line and a gas inlet line arriving in the injector; a source of oxygen or a gas mixture comprising oxygen, capable of delivering oxygen into the gas line; and a water recirculation loop including: a water tank, at atmospheric pressure, to supply the injector with fresh water; a coil capable of receiving water charged with dissolved oxygen from the injector through a pump, wherein the coil creates a water/oxygen contact time; and an overflow valve, to have the water resulting from the coil passed in order to be able to direct the water entirely to the animals' watering or partially to the animals' watering and partially back to the water tank. A method for rearing animals comprises boosting water with dissolved oxygen up to saturation for animals' watering.
