A retractor and a seat belt device that can achieve miniaturization of a device by thinning a part of an automatic lock mechanism. The automatic lock mechanism includes a switching plate that is rotatably connected to the spool via a speed reduction gear, and a lever member that is operated by the switching plate. The switching plate includes a disc-shaped guide part, a first projected part disposed on a first surface of the guide part, and a second projected part disposed on a second surface of the guide part. The lever member includes a first lever in contact with the first projected part, a second lever in contact with the second projected part, and a gap disposed between the first lever and the second lever, through which the guide part can pass.

To provide a seat belt retractor and a seat belt apparatus in which contact between a locking base and a base frame can be suppressed. A seat belt retractor includes a spool 2 that retracts a webbing restraining an occupant, a base frame 3 that accommodates the spool 2 while allowing the spool 2 to rotate, and a lock mechanism 4 regulating rotation of the spool 2. The lock mechanism 4 includes a locking base 41 disposed at an end portion of the spool 2, an opening 31 that is formed in the base frame 3 and allows the locking base 41 to be inserted therethrough, engagement teeth 32 formed at an inner edge of the opening 31, and a pawl 42 that is disposed radially outwardly movable relative to the locking base 41 and engageable with the engagement teeth 32. The lock mechanism 4 further includes a protect cover 43 that is attached to the locking base 41 and includes a side wall portion 43b disposed along a side surface portion of the locking base 41.

Load limiting seatbelt retractor

A vehicle includes a seatbelt retractor. The seatbelt retractor includes a housing. The seatbelt retractor includes a spool having a first end and a second end each rotatably supported by the housing. The spool is elongated on an axis from the first end to the second end. The seatbelt retractor includes a torsion bar having a first end fixed to the first end of the spool and a second end operatively engaged with the housing. The torsion bar has a central cavity. The seatbelt retractor includes a heating filament disposed in the central cavity.

Load-limiting retractor

A retractor includes a spool, a torsion bar and a torsion tube rotationally fixed to the spool, and a locking member aligned with the torsion bar. The torsion bar and the torsion tube extend coaxially from the spool to respective first ends, and the torsion bar has a key. The locking member is movable from an unlocked position rotationally disengaged with the torsion bar to a locked position wherein the key rotationally fixes the locking member to the first end of the torsion bar. When the locking member is in the unlocked position, the torsion bar may be plastically deformed to limit the load applied by webbing against an occupant. If sufficient force is applied to the webbing, the locking member moves to the locked position in which both torsion bar and the torsion tube are locked together and, in tandem, limit the load applied by the webbing.
