Example illustrations herein are directed to systems and methods for determining whether a vehicle driver meets a seat belt criteria based upon a detection of each of a set of seat belt conditions. In an example, the set of conditions includes at least the vehicle driver occupying a driver seat of the vehicle, expiration of a minimum delay time after the vehicle driver is occupying the driver seat, and an engagement of a driver's seat belt latch with a corresponding buckle after the expiration of the minimum delay time, and a positioning of a driver's seat belt on a shoulder of the vehicle driver. The method may also include enabling a first vehicle feature if the vehicle driver meets the seat belt criteria. The first vehicle feature may be disabled if the vehicle driver does not meet the seat belt criteria.

System and method for determining seatbelt routing

A system and method for detecting seatbelt routing in a motor vehicle safety restraint system for a motor vehicle seat. The system includes a seatbelt buckle sensor, a seatbelt payout sensor, an occupancy sensor, an automatic locking retractor sensor and a control module. The method includes sensing a presence of a seatbelt latchplate in a seatbelt buckle. Further, the method includes sensing a seatbelt payout length. Additionally, the method includes comparing the seatbelt payout length to a first seatbelt payout length threshold. Moreover, the method includes determining seatbelt routing based on whether seatbelt latchplate is present in the seatbelt buckle and the seatbelt payout length is greater than the first seatbelt payout length threshold.

Vehicle Occupancy-Monitoring System
20210206343 · 2021-07-08 ·

The techniques of this disclosure relate to a vehicle occupancy-monitoring system. The system includes a controller circuit that receives occupant data from an occupancy-monitoring sensor of a vehicle. The controller circuit determines an occupancy status of respective seats in a cabin of the vehicle based on the occupancy-monitoring sensor. The controller circuit indicates the occupancy status of the respective seats on a display located in a field of view of occupants of the vehicle. The display is integral to one of a roof light module, a door panel, or a headliner of the cabin. The system can improve passenger safety by alerting the operator and other occupants about the occupancy status of the passengers.

SYSTEM, METHOD, AND APPARATUS FOR CLASSIFYING AN OCCUPANT OF A VEHICLE SEAT
20210016682 · 2021-01-21 ·

A method for determining an occupant class for a vehicle seat includes obtaining, via first and second seat weight sensors, first and second seat weight indications for the vehicle seat. The first seat weight sensor is located on the lateral side of the vehicle seat at a front location on the vehicle seat. The second seat weight sensor is located on the lateral side of the vehicle seat at a rear location on the vehicle seat. The method also includes obtaining a vehicle acceleration value from a vehicle acceleration sensor. The method also includes determining a raw weight on the vehicle seat as twice the sum of the first and second seat weight indications, and determining a filtered weight based on the raw weight. The method further includes determining the occupant class based on the filtered weight in response to the vehicle acceleration value being less than a predetermined value.

Improper seatbelt usage detection
10889262 · 2021-01-12 · ·

A system for detecting improper usage of a seatbelt of a vehicle includes a vehicle seat having a seat cushion and a seat back. A shoulder belt and a lap belt are intended to restrain an occupant sitting on the vehicle seat. The system includes a sensor module associated with the shoulder belt and the lap belt. The sensor module generates signals indicative of at least one parameter associated with the vehicle seat, the shoulder belt, and the lap belt when the occupant is sitting on the vehicle seat. The system also includes a controller that receives the signals indicative of the at least one parameter associated with the seat back, the shoulder belt, and the lap belt. The controller analyzes the received one or more signals, and determines whether the seatbelt is being used improperly by the occupant, based on the analysis.

HUMAN BODY PRESSURE SWITCH, VEHICLE SEAT, VEHICLE AND METHOD FOR PROCESSING HUMAN BODY PRESSURE SWITCH

Provided is a human body pressure switch, a vehicle seat, a vehicle, and a method for processing a human body pressure switch. The human body pressure switch includes: a pressure switch element, an elastic pressure-contact body provided at the upper side or the lower side of the pressure switch element, in which the elastic pressure-contact body includes a spacing support structure and a force support protrusion, the force support protrusion corresponds to a sensing contact of the pressure switch element, in a state with pressure from an external force, amount of deformation of the spacing support structure is greater than amount of deformation of the force support protrusion, and in a state without pressure from the external force, the spacing support structure plays a supporting role.

Safety restraint non-compliance light

A source of illumination is positioned on a vehicle facing rearwardly. Multi-function controls include a first control and a second control. The first control illuminates the source of illumination and provides a first signal when a driver depresses a brake pedal. The second control illuminates the source of illumination and provides a second signal when an occupant of the vehicle is not using a seat belt. The second signal is an indicator signal adapted to be read by an automatic license plate reader. The indicator signal is chosen from the class consisting of an alpha-numeric signal and a sequencing pattern signal. The alpha-numeric signal is created by light shining through a translucent panel with opaque alpha-numeric markings. The sequencing signal is created by a light turning on and off.

A system and method for detecting seatbelt routing in a motor vehicle safety restraint system. The system includes a seatbelt buckle sensor, an occupant sensor, a seatbelt payout sensor, and a control module. The method includes sensing a presence of a seatbelt latchplate in the seatbelt buckle. Further, the method determines whether the seatbelt is buckled. Additionally, the method includes sensing a presence of occupant in a vehicle seat. Moreover, the method further includes determining whether the occupant is detected in the vehicle seat. The method senses a seatbelt payout length and compares the seatbelt payout length to a first seatbelt payout length threshold. Thereafter, the method determines seatbelt routing based on whether the seatbelt is buckled, an occupant is present, and a seatbelt payout length has exceeded the first seatbelt payout length threshold.
