A brake sphere apparatus of a spherical braking system is mounted on the axle or drive shaft of a vehicle. A brake sphere is connected to a wheel hub and rotates simultaneously together with the wheel hub. A housing contains the brake sphere, two brake pads on opposing sides of the brake sphere, and two hydraulic shafts respectively driving the two brake pads. Two hydraulic lines are connected to the two hydraulic shafts through the housing, the two hydraulic shafts press the two brake pads against the brake sphere when pressure is applied through the two hydraulic lines. Cooling is provided to cool the brake sphere when torque is applied to said brake sphere to decrease simultaneous rotation of the brake sphere and wheel hub.

Electric Wheel Assembly Applicable for Parallelly Mounted Dual-Tire Wheel, Axle, and Vehicle

Disclosed are an electric wheel assembly applicable for a parallelly mounted dual-tire wheel, an axle, and a vehicle. The electric wheel assembly includes a wheel and support axle assembly, an internal-rotor hub motor, a planetary gear reducer and a brake system. A planetary carrier is connected to a hub. The hub is connected to a spoke and a rim. The wheel support axle passes through a rotor sleeve and is provided with a hub bearing to support the hub and a whole wheel. A sun gear disposed at an end of the rotor sleeve of the internal-rotor hub motor is a power input of the planetary gear speed reducer, and the planetary carrier is a power output. A planetary gear of the planetary gear reducer is a tower-shaped gear and realizes a relatively high transmission ratio under a condition that an axial length is relatively small.

One-way and two-way brake auto-adjusters

A brake assembly has an auto-adjustment mechanism including an adjusting link that is rotatable to adjust an unloaded state position of a brake shoe, and an adjusting lever that operates to rotate the adjusting link during a release of the braking assembly to adjust the unloaded state position of the brake shoe. The auto-adjustment mechanism includes a pivot point mounted on a brake back plate about which the adjusting lever rotates, and an adjusting spring attached to the adjusting lever. The adjusting lever rotates in a first direction against the spring force when the brake assembly is actuated, and the adjusting spring by operation of the spring force rotates the adjusting lever in a second direction when the brake assembly is released. During the brake release, as the adjusting lever rotates back the adjusting lever catches the adjusting link in a ratchet fashion to rotate the adjusting link to adjust the unloaded state position of the brake shoes.

Wheel sensors within vehicular brake assemblies

A drum braking system having a spindle and backing plate affixed thereto. The system includes a drum rotating on the spindle. The drum has an inside surface with integral notches that are machined or cast into the drum. When the brakes are applied, brake shoes are actuated to contact the inside surface to create drag between the drum and the spindle. A sensor is fixed with respect to the spindle or backing plate that detects the notches when the drum rotates about the spindle. A portion of the inside surface with the integral notches is shared with the brake shoes so that applying the brakes prevents buildup that could contact the sensor. The sensor is positioned radially to reduce the effect of drum endplay on detecting of the notches.

Method for diagnostics on a braking system of a motor vehicle, and corresponding braking system
11034339 · 2021-06-15 · ·

A method for operating a brake system for a motor vehicle, wherein the brake system has a braking pressure source and at least one wheel brake which can be pressurized with a braking pressure which is provided by means of the braking pressure source and acting on a brake piston. For performing a diagnosis of the brake system, the wheel brake is pressurized with a braking pressure which corresponds to a diagnosis braking pressure and which applies a certain force on the brake piston, and a counterforce directed oppositely to said force is applied to the brake piston.

The rotor of an electric motor unit has a web portion partially enclosing the remainder of the unit and terminating in a circumferentially extending rim. The brake drum defines an engagement surface for drum brake linings, and has an outboard end defining a flange securable to the wheel hub. The brake drum also includes an open inboard end, partly covered over by a dust guard, and a circumferential wall extending between the outboard and inboard ends and surrounding the engagement surface. By way of keys and slots or recesses, a reinforcing ring interlocks the circumferentially extending rim of the web portion and the circumferential brake drum wall. The reinforcing ring is secured to the circumferentially extending rim and to the wall of the brake drum at a location disposed axially between the rim of the web portion and the brake drum lining engagement surface.
