Barley cultivar AS-007
A barley variety designated AS-007, the plants, seeds and plant parts of barley variety AS-007, methods for producing a barley plant produced by crossing the variety AS-007 with itself or another barley plant, and hybrid barley seeds and plants produced by crossing the variety AS-007 with another barley line or plant, and the creation of variants of variety AS-007 by backcrossing, mutagenesis, haploid systems, cell and tissue culture or transformation utilizing transgenes are disclosed. Methods for producing other barley varieties or breeding lines derived from barley variety AS-007 and to barley varieties or breeding lines produced by those methods are also provided. Barley variety AS-007 demonstrates a unique combination of traits for the human food market including waxy starch, hulless seed and increased levels of beta-glucan fiber.
Method to Screen For a Mutant Within a Population of Organisms By Applying a Pooling and Splitting Approach
In traditional plant breeding approaches, chemical mutagenesis may be utilized to introduce nucleotide substitutions at random in the genome of a plant, i.e. without possibilities to control the sites of nucleotide changes. Because of genome complexities, the statistical probability is extremely little when it comes to finding a predetermined nucleotide substitution. The present invention, however, demonstrates how a novel, alternative use of digital polymerase chain reaction (dPCR), preferably droplet dPCR (ddPCR), is developed to exploit finding of specific nucleotide substitutions in mutated genes. The entire platform comprises a screening method with a library of mutagenized organisms, digital PCR-based systems and a set-up to propagate and analyze identified, mutated organisms.
Barley cultivar AS-Wolf
A barley variety designated AS-Wolf, the plants, seeds and plant parts of barley variety AS-Wolf, methods for producing a barley plant produced by crossing the variety AS-Wolf with itself or another barley plant, and hybrid barley seeds and plants produced by crossing the variety AS-Wolf with another barley line or plant, and the creation of variants of variety AS-Wolf by backcrossing, mutagenesis, haploid systems, cell and tissue culture or transformation utilizing transgenes are disclosed. Methods for producing other barley varieties or breeding lines derived from barley variety AS-Wolf and to barley varieties or breeding lines produced by those methods are also provided. Barley variety AS-Wolf demonstrates a unique combination of traits for the human food market including waxy starch, hulless seed and increased levels of beta-glucan fiber.

BARLEY AND USES THEREOF
The invention provides barley grain comprising a reduced level or activity of starch synthase IIa protein and a starch content of at least 41% (w/w) and methods of producing, identifying and using same. The grain may comprise an amylase content of at least 50%, a -glucan content of 5-9% (w/w) or greater than 9% (w/w), and/or a fructan content of 3-11% (w/w). The fructan may comprise a degree of polymerization from about 3 to about 12. For example, the plant and grain comprises a sex6-292 allele and/or an amo1 mutation. A food or beverage product, and methods of producing a food or beverage product, comprising obtaining or producing the subject grain and processing the grain to produce the product. Also contemplated are methods of improving one or more indicators of health in a mammal comprising administering a composition comprising the subject barley grain or a product comprising same.
Restorer Plants
Hybrid cereals are described which are obtained by restoring the pollen fertility for the Pampa cytoplasmic male sterility (P-CMS) and which are characterized by a reduced linkage drag. Plants are provided, in particular rye, which, as the male pollen parent, are capable of restoring the pollen fertility for the P-CMS. Furthermore, the nucleic acid molecule which carries the necessary information for restoring the P-CMS, DNA and vectors which contain such a nucleic acid molecule, corresponding host cells as well as a protein which can be encoded by the nucleic acid molecule and antibodies directed against it are also described. Furthermore, methods for the production of corresponding hybrid plants and transgenic plants are provided.
Bacteria Conferring Bioprotection and/or Biofertilizer Properties
The present invention relates to bacteria conferring bioprotection and/or biofertilizer properties to plants into which they are inoculated. More particularly, the present invention relates to endophyte strains of Paenibacillus sp., plants infected with such strains and related methods.
BARLEY FOR PRODUCTION OF FLAVOR-STABLE BEVERAGE
According to the invention, there is provided null-LOX-1 barley and plant products produced thereof, such as malt manufactured by using barley kernels defective in synthesis of the fatty acid-converting enzyme lipoxygenase-1. Said enzyme accounts for the principal activity related to conversion of linoleic acid into 9-hydroperoxy octadecadienoic acid, a lipoxygenase pathway metabolite, whichthrough further enzymatic or spontaneous reactionsmay lead to the appearance of trans-2-nonenal. The invention enables brewers to produce a beer devoid of detectable trans-2-nonenal-specific off-flavors, even after prolonged storage of the beverage.
