Brake apparatus

A brake apparatus includes a brake operation member, a state detection unit, a cylinder, a first portion, an operation rod, a stepped piston, first, second, and third seal members, first and second pressure chambers, a hydraulic source, and first and second oil passages. The brake apparatus also includes a fluid amount control unit. The fluid amount control unit is configured to control an amount of the brake fluid to be supplied to the first pressure chamber and the second pressure chamber. The fluid amount control unit is also configured to increase the amount of the brake fluid to be supplied to the second pressure chamber when the detected state is equal to a preset pressure increase request.

Brake control unit

A brake control unit includes a primary piston and a secondary piston that respectively define a primary chamber and a secondary chamber. The primary piston carries an intermediate piston that slides in the secondary piston. A primary insulating seal is disposed between the pistons such that the primary insulating section of the primary insulating seal only depends on the equivalent section connecting the force applied at the inlet and the secondary pressure. The ratio of the hydraulic sections is configured to be modified without having to intervene on the primary and secondary pressure seals for the main piston and the secondary seal by way of modifying the section of the plunger piston and that of the seal thereof.

Brake actuation unit

A brake actuation unit (1) having a master brake cylinder (2) and a pressure-medium reservoir (4); a pressure provision device (5), having a piston (51) actuated by an electric motor (35), wherein the piston delimits a pressure chamber (50); first and second groups of electrically actuatable valves (6a-6d, 7a-7d); and an electronic control unit (12, 12). The electric motor has at least two independently operable drive units, each having at least one winding, for driving the electric motor. The electronic control unit has a first microcontroller (201) and a second microcontroller (301). The first microcontroller controls (205) one of the drive units and the second microcontroller controls (305) the other of the drive units. The first and second microcontrollers control (207, 307) the second group of valves.
