Disclosed is a brake system for a railroad vehicle, including a parking brake provided with a piston and having a first configuration in which the piston is in a working position in which it acts on a lining support and applies a predetermined force to a brake disc; a second configuration in which the piston is in a rest position in which it does not act on the support and does not apply any force to the disc; and a third configuration in which, when the vehicle is not at a standstill and the ambient temperature in the environment of the disc is greater than a threshold value, it forces the piston to move towards a trip position different from its working and rest positions, in order to limit or cancel the force applied to the disc.

System and method for wheel-slip prevention in railway vehicles with pneumatic brakes

A control system for wheel-slip prevention in a railway vehicle with a pneumatic brake is provided. The control system comprises an input interface configured to accept a deceleration reference for controlling the pneumatic brake, and a memory configured to store a reference governor providing executable instructions for modifying the deceleration reference upon its violation of a wheel-slip constraint, and configured to store a controller providing executable instructions for mapping the modified deceleration reference to a sequence of control commands for controlling pressure applied by the pneumatic brake. The control system further comprises a processor configured to execute the reference governor to modify the deceleration reference and configured to execute the controller to map the modified deceleration reference to the sequence of control commands. Further, an output interface of the control system is configured to output the sequence of control commands to control the pneumatic brake.

A braking system for a vehicle may include a regulating device disposed between a braking device and a pressure agent source that causes the braking device to move. The regulating device may include a slide having an internal chamber with a supply port, a venting port, and a regulating port opening into the internal chamber and through which a pressure agent from the pressure agent source may flow. The regulating port can be located between the supply port and the venting port. Each of the supply port and the venting port may have a general cross-section for passage of the pressure agent substantially having a shape with at least one apex.

Vehicle braking assembly

The assembly comprises a body wherein there are defined a chamber, a supply valve adapted to connect the chamber to a pressure source or to the atmosphere, and a vent valve adapted to allow or prevent the connection of the chamber to the atmosphere. The valves are provided with control solenoids to which respective electronic switches are coupled. The assembly also comprises electronic control devices adapted to provide, as a function of the values of at least one input signal, logic control signals to the electronic switches so as to control, through the valves, the value of the pressure in the chamber. The control means comprise two processing and control devices independent of one another, both receiving the input signal and designed to execute strategies for controlling the pressure in the chamber, equivalent to one another.

A method may include detecting a first pressure and a second pressure of a fluid in a brake pipe of a vehicle system that includes a plurality of vehicles and extends from a lead vehicle to an end vehicle. The method may further include determining a pressure differential signature between the first pressure and the second pressure and evaluating the pressure differential signature with a machine learning model to determine whether a blockage or a leak exists in the brake pipe. A system may include one or more processors configured to detect a first pressure and a second pressure of a fluid in a brake pipe. The one or more processors may be further configured to determine a pressure differential signature between the first pressure and the second pressure and evaluate the pressure differential signature with a machine learning model to determine whether a blockage exists in the brake pipe.

A leak control device includes a reservoir fluidly coupled with a brake pipe of a vehicle brake system. The leak control device also includes a conduit fluidly coupled with the reservoir and having an orifice that directs fluid out of the reservoir at a leak rate. The leak control device includes a valve fluidly coupled with and disposed between the reservoir and the conduit. The valve may open and direct the fluid out of the reservoir and out of the vehicle brake system at the leak rate responsive to a pressure of the fluid in the brake pipe being no less than a pressure of the fluid in the reservoir.

A system and method for detecting the operational status of a brake system on a railcar. The system receives from a sensor an indication of the magnitude of a braking force applied by the braking system in response to an instruction to increase or decrease the braking force. It compares the response to possible responses of the braking system in view of the instruction provided. Based on the comparison, the system generates at least one of a message and/or an alert indicating the status of the brake system. Additional sensors, including a pressure sensor on a brake pipe of the railcar, can be added for additional functionality.

Vehicle control system

A vehicle control system includes at least one sensor and a power supply control system. The sensor is on board a vehicle system and configured to generate vehicle data relating to a condition or parameter associated with the vehicle system. The power supply control system is configured to control one or more power supplies on board the vehicle system and to receive the vehicle data from the at least one sensor. The power supply control system is also configured to compare the vehicle data to one or more criteria relating to vehicle movement, and, in response to a determination that the vehicle data meets the criteria and receipt of a signal indicative of the vehicle system carrying (or being configured to carry) cargo of a predetermined material, generate a control signal to deactivate at least one of the power supplies.

VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEM AND METHOD

A method includes applying a brake system of a multi-vehicle system using an onboard controller device and receiving grade input at the onboard controller device from a remote controller device. The grade input indicates a grade of a surface on which the multi-vehicle system is disposed. The method further includes starting movement responsive to receiving a speed command signal at the onboard controller device from the remote controller device. The movement started by initiating release of the brake system and/or generating tractive effort from a propulsion system of the multi-vehicle system stretches the multi-vehicle system. The method further includes, responsive to the movement reaching a designated speed, switching to a closed loop control process of controlling the movement based on one or more of the speed command signal or a brake command signal received at the onboard controller device from the remote controller device.
