The disclosure describes various embodiments for detecting an unexpected control state of an autonomous driving system. According to an embodiment, an exemplary method of detecting an unexpected control state of an autonomous driving system include the operations of generating environmental data of a vehicle; determining, by the autonomous driving system, a first control state based on the environmental data of the vehicle; determining, by a reference model, a second control state based on the environmental data, wherein the reference model defines at least one scenario each corresponding to a plurality of expected control states and a state switching condition, and in each of the expected control states corresponding to the scenario, an action of the vehicle in the scenario obeys a traffic rule; and determining the unexpected control state of the autonomous driving system by comparing the first control state with the second control state.

Control device

A control device of an automatic drive vehicle includes: an information acquisition unit that acquires power generator information as information on a power generator provided in the automatic drive vehicle; an operation control unit that switches between a first state in which automatic driving of the automatic drive vehicle is executed without restriction and a second state in which the automatic driving is partially or entirely restricted; and a determination unit that determines whether to perform switching to the second state by the operation control unit.

Vehicle stop support system

Provided is a vehicle stop support system for supporting vehicle stop in an emergency condition. The vehicle stop support system sets an allowable lateral acceleration, based on a physical abnormality of a driver; detects a plurality of stop point candidates in a traveling direction of a vehicle; estimates a lateral acceleration to be generated during traveling of the vehicle to each of the candidates; estimates a rear-end collision risk that the vehicle will be rear-ended by a following vehicle; sets a stop point; and controls the vehicle to travel to the stop point and stop at the stop point. The system is operable to set, as the stop point, one of the candidates which satisfies a condition that the lateral acceleration estimated with respect thereto is equal to or less than the allowable lateral acceleration and which is lowest in terms of the rear-end collision risk.

METHOD FOR CONTROLLING THE POWERTRAIN OF A MOTOR VEHICLE

Disclosed is a method for controlling the powertrain of a motor vehicle between the current location of the vehicle and an arrival point, including calculating a theoretical optimal traction force, determining a friction force applied to the vehicle, calculating an actual optimal force to be applied to the wheels as far as the arrival point, and applying a traction force to the wheels of the vehicle when the calculated actual optimal force is strictly greater than a predetermined threshold value or else not applying a force to the wheels of the vehicle when the calculated actual optimal force is greater than or equal to zero and less than or equal to the predetermined threshold value, or else applying a braking force to the wheels of the vehicle when the calculated actual optimal force is strictly less than zero.

FAIL-SAFE HANDLING SYSTEM FOR AUTONOMOUS DRIVING VEHICLE

According to various embodiment, described herein are methods and systems for reliably detecting malfunctions in a variety of software or hardware components in an autonomous driving vehicle (ADV). In one embodiment, a redundant system can be provided on an independent computing device in an ADV to check for malfunctions in a number of software or hardware components. When no malfunction occurs in the ADV, an autonomous driving system (ADS) in the ADV operates to drive the ADV, while the redundant system can monitor the ADS in a standby mode. In the event of a malfunction, the redundant system can take over the control of the ADV, and take appropriate actions based on a severity level of the malfunction.
