Controlling movement of a vehicle
Embodiments of the present invention provide a controller (10) for controlling movement of a vehicle (100), and a corresponding method. The controller (10) comprises processing means configured to: receive (501) a first signal indicative of the vehicle being in a remote control drive mode; receive (502) a second signal indicative of operation of a main input device (124S, 161, 163, 171, 174) within the vehicle (100); and provide (520) an output signal for applying a braking force to slow the vehicle (100) to a stop in dependence on said first and second signals.
Autonomous vehicle insurance based upon usage
Methods and systems for monitoring use, determining risk, and pricing insurance policies for a vehicle having autonomous or semi-autonomous operation features are provided. According to certain aspects, a computer-implemented method for generating or updating usage-based insurance policies for autonomous or semi-autonomous vehicles may be provided. A request to generate an insurance quote may be received via wireless communication, and with the customer's permission, risk levels associated with intended usage by the customer of an autonomous or semi-autonomous vehicle may be determined. An insurance policy may be adjusted based upon the risk levels and the intended vehicle usage. The insurance policy may then be presented on the customer's mobile device for review and approval. In some aspects, the vehicle may be rented, and the intended vehicle usage is measured in distance or duration of vehicle operation. Insurance discounts may be provided to risk averse vehicle owners based upon low risk levels.
VEHICULAR LANE CENTERING SYSTEM
A vehicular lane centering system is enabled responsive to speed of the vehicle exceeding a threshold speed and includes a camera and a processor. Based on processing of captured image data, the system determines position of a left lane delimiter and a right lane delimiter on the road. The system establishes a left safe zone delimiter based on the determined position of the left lane delimiter and a right safe zone delimiter based on the determined position of the right lane delimiter. With the system enabled, the system takes corrective action responsive to the vehicular lane centering system determining that the vehicle is at risk of unintentionally crossing the left safe zone delimiter or the right safe zone delimiter. When the system does not determine position of the left lane delimiter or the right lane delimiter for a first period of time, corrective action taken by the system is reduced.
AUTONOMOUS DRIVING CONTROL DEVICE
An autonomous driving control device is capable of starting an autonomous driving control without an operation of a driver and reducing a possibility that the driver can not start manual driving. An autonomous driving control is switched to manual driving when a determination section determines that the amount of operation by the driver is equal to or greater than a first threshold, before a predetermined time elapses since the autonomous driving control is automatically started. An autonomous driving control is switched to a manual driving when the determination section determines that the amount of operation by the driver is equal to or greater than a second threshold that is greater than the first threshold, after the predetermined time elapses.
Work Vehicle
A work vehicle includes an override operation sensor that senses override operation to carry out switching between an automatic driving mode and a manual driving mode and a selection device for selecting any one of the manual driving mode, a manned automatic driving mode, and an unmanned automatic driving mode, as the driving mode of a dump truck. A controller carries out switching from the manned automatic driving mode to the manual driving mode when override operation is sensed by the override operation sensor in the case in which the manned automatic driving mode is selected by the selection device, and continues the unmanned automatic driving mode when override operation is sensed by the override operation sensor in the case in which the unmanned automatic driving mode is selected by the selection device.
INTELLIGENT DRIVING PASSIVE PEDAL CONTROL
A method for assignment of vehicle control includes receiving route data indicating a route between a starting location of a vehicle and a destination location, and determining an optimal vehicle configuration for the route based on a target vehicle speed and a hybrid torque split. The method further includes receiving a driver requested torque value and determining a passive pedal torque value based on the route data and vehicle powertrain data. The method further includes selectively assigning control of the vehicle to a vehicle system or to a driver of the vehicle based on the driver requested torque value and the passive pedal torque value.
Autonomous vehicle control assessment and selection
Methods and systems for monitoring use, determining risk, and pricing insurance policies for a vehicle having one or more autonomous or semi-autonomous operation features are provided. According to certain aspects, a computer-implemented method for operating an autonomous or semi-autonomous vehicle may be provided. With a vehicle owner's permission, a vehicle operator identity may be determined; and operating data regarding the autonomous or semi-autonomous vehicle may be received from one or more vehicle-mounted sensors. Based upon the received operating data, (i) autonomous operation risk levels associated with autonomous vehicle operation; and (ii) operator risk levels associated with autonomous vehicle operation by the vehicle operator may be determined. Based upon a comparison of the autonomous operation versus vehicle operator risk levels, the autonomous features may be engaged if it is safer for the vehicle to travel autonomously. Insurance discounts may be provided to risk averse vehicle owners having this safety functionality.
SECONDARY DISENGAGE ALERT FOR AUTONOMOUS VEHICLES
Aspects of the disclosure provide for determining when to provide and providing secondary disengage alerts for a vehicle having autonomous and manual driving modes. For instance, while the vehicle is being controlled in the autonomous driving mode, receiving user input at one or more using input devices of the vehicle. In response to receiving the user input, the vehicle may be transitioned from the autonomous driving mode to a manual driving mode and provide a primary disengage alert to an occupant of the vehicle regarding the transition. Whether to provide a secondary disengage alert may be determined based on at least circumstances of the user input. After the transition, the secondary disengage alert may be provided based on the determination.
Apparatus and method for monitoring the activity of a driver of a vehicle
An apparatus and a method are described for monitoring the activity of a driver of a vehicle, which apparatus has a device for monitoring several driver activities, by way of which various driver activities at the actuator for influencing vehicle motion are detected; and a device for evaluating the driver activity intensity level is provided, by way of which the intensity of the respective driver activity with regard to the urgency of the respective vehicle reaction is evaluated and is outputted as an intensity of the driver intervention; one of several different system reactions being selected depending on the intensity of the driver intervention, and the selected system reaction being executed.
Autonomous vehicle infrastructure communication device
Methods and systems for monitoring use, determining risk, and pricing insurance policies for a vehicle having one or more autonomous or semi-autonomous operation features are provided. According to certain aspects, a computer-implemented method for communicating information regarding a smart infrastructure component to an autonomous or semi-autonomous vehicle may be provided. Sensors may be communicatively connected to an infrastructure communication device, and the infrastructure communication device may generate a message based upon information from the sensors and/or regarding the infrastructure component. The message may be transmitted, and, with the vehicle operator's permission, all or part of the determined message may be presented to the operator of the autonomous or semi-autonomous vehicle. The message may include weather, traffic, ice, or road condition or construction information and facilitate safer vehicle travel. Insurance discounts for customers may be generated based upon their vehicle being equipped with this safety and vehicle damage prevention functionality.
