This disclosure describes an autonomous vehicle configured to obtain sensor data associated with objects proximate a projected route of the autonomous vehicle, determine static constraints that limit a trajectory of the autonomous vehicle along the projected route based on non-temporal risks associated with a first subset of the f objects, predict a position and speed of the autonomous vehicle as a function of time along the projected route based on the static constraints, identify temporal risks associated with a second subset of the objects based on the predicted position and speed of the autonomous vehicle, determine dynamic constraints that further limit the trajectory of the autonomous vehicle along the projected route to help the autonomous vehicle avoid the temporal risks associated with the second subset of the objects, and adjust the trajectory of the autonomous vehicle in accordance with the static constraints and the dynamic constraints.

Based on various information received, the approach creates an action list of solutions for the passenger, wherein the action list has assigned dynamic risk scores. The approach determines the best solution based on the risk scores and selects the best solution from the action list.

The example apparatus also includes a user interface generator to: generate user interface data to define content for a user interface to be displayed via a screen, the user interface to include a graphical representation of the vehicle, the user interface to graphically indicate the vehicle is in the safe situation at the first point in time; and modify the user interface data so that the user interface graphically indicates the vehicle is in the dangerous situation at the second point in time.

Apparatus for controlling vehicle and method thereof

An apparatus for controlling a vehicle capable of performing autonomous driving is provided. The apparatus includes an autonomous driving device that executes the autonomous driving and generates a transition demand when it is impossible to execute the autonomous driving. A driving controller performs a minimum risk maneuver (MRM) of applying a deceleration pattern differently depending on a driving environment of the vehicle, when the transition demand is generated, but when driving manipulation by a driver does not occur. A subsequent safety ensuring function is performed according to the MRM for the driver to recognize the MRM, and a drive mode of the vehicle is changed to a drive mode with a rapid response speed to acceleration or steering.
