Method and system for engine control

Methods and systems are provided for using compression heating to heat a cylinder piston before cylinder combustion is resumed. Cylinder heating is achieved using combinations of slow unfueled engine rotation where the engine cylinders are heated via compression stroke heating, and slow compressor rotation where the cylinders are heated via compression heating. One or more intake or exhaust heaters may be concurrently operated to expedite cylinder heating.

HYBRID VEHICLE

A hybrid vehicle includes an engine, a first motor, a planetary, the first motor, and a drive shaft, such that the first motor, the engine, and the drive shaft are arranged in this order in a collinear diagram, a second motor configured to be connected to the drive shaft, a power storage device configured to exchange an electric power with the first motor and the second motor. A braking force is applied to a vehicle by motoring the engine, in which fuel injection is stopped, by the first motor and/or regenerative driving of the second motor, when an accelerator is not operated. Motoring of the engine, in which fuel injection is stopped, by the first motor is limited, in a case where a deposition amount of particulate matter deposited on the filter is equal to or higher than a predetermined amount, when an accelerator is not operated.

A hybrid vehicle includes an engine with cylinders generating driving power and a turbocharger having a turbine in an exhaust line, and a compressor which rotates with the turbine and compresses intake gas. An electric supercharger is disposed in the intake line upstream from the compressor, a catalytic converter is disposed in the exhaust line downstream from the turbine. A post processing bypass line connects the exhaust line at a downstream portion of the catalytic converter and the intake line at a downstream portion of the electric supercharger. A low pressure EGR device includes a low pressure EGR line branching off from the exhaust line and merging into the intake line and a low pressure EGR cooler disposed therein. A high pressure EGR device includes a high pressure EGR line branching off from an exhaust system and merging into an intake system, and a high pressure EGR cooler disposed therein.

Device and method for controlling hybrid vehicle

A pre-stoppage ignition control unit defines, as a stoppage transition air amount, an intake air amount of the engine with which the engine torque becomes the stoppage transition torque in a state in which an ignition timing of the engine is set to a predetermined self-sustaining operation ignition timing, defines, as an intermediate timing, a predetermined timing earlier than timing at which the intake air amount converges to the stoppage transition air amount during an execution period of the pre-stoppage self-sustaining operation control, sets the ignition timing of the engine in a period from the start of the pre-stoppage self-sustaining operation control to the intermediate timing to timing earlier than the self-sustaining operation ignition timing, and sets the ignition timing of the engine in the period after the intermediate timing to the self-sustaining operation ignition timing.

Methods and system for operating a vehicle

Systems and methods for reducing perception of transitions from shifting a transmission from neutral to drive are described. In one example, the transmission is shifted from neutral to drive in response to brake pedal motion before the brake pedal is fully released so that timing of pressurizing clutches and engaging a forward gear is advanced to occur while the brake pedal is still applied.

VEHICLE CONTROL METHOD AND VEHICLE SYSTEM

A method of controlling a vehicle (1) in which rear road wheels (2) are driven by a prime mover (4, 20). This vehicle control method comprises: a basic torque setting step of setting, based on a driving state of the vehicle, a basic torque to be generated by the prime mover; a decremental torque setting step of setting a decremental torque such that the basic torque is reduced in accordance with a decrease in steering angle of a steering device (26) equipped in the vehicle; and a torque generation step of controlling the prime mover to generate a torque which is determined by reducing the basic torque based on the decremental torque.

Methods and systems are provided for diagnostics of an intake air filter during vehicle-off conditions. In one example, the engine may be reverse rotated, unfueled, and air flow via the exhaust manifold and the intake manifold are estimated and compared to a baseline air flow. A blocked intake air flow may be indicated based on the comparison between air flow via the exhaust manifold and the intake manifold and the baseline air flow upon opening a secondary flow path to atmosphere.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CLOSE-IN-BORE LEARNING FOR A HYBRID VEHICLE

Systems and methods for performing closed-in-bore diagnostics for a hybrid vehicle are presented. In one example, select operating conditions may be evaluated before closed-in-bore diagnostics may be initiated. In addition, charging of one or more batteries may be reduced to ensure that an engine throttle may operate with a small opening amount to evaluate the presence or absence of sludge in the engine throttle.

Methods and system for adjusting camshafts

Systems and methods for correcting an engine intake camshaft position and an engine exhaust camshaft position for a variable valve timing engine are described. In one example, intake manifold pressure of an engine is sampled while a motor/generator rotates the engine at a predetermined speed without fuel being supplied to the engine. A camshaft angle where minimum intake manifold pressure is observed is a basis for correcting camshaft position.
