HEAVY TRUCK HYBRID POWER SYSTEM AND CONTROL METHOD
A heavy hybrid truck is powered by a non-electric powered medium and an electric powered axle. The electric powered axle assists the non-electric powered medium when load changes are detected. The electric powered axle is sourced by a rechargeable battery. The non-electric powered medium is either a fossil fuel combustion engine, a biofuel engine, a hydrogen engine, or a combination.
Vehicle with interchangeable drive modules
Vehicles may be composed of a relatively few number of “modules” that are assembled together during a final assembly process. An example vehicle may include a body module, a first drive module coupled to a first end of the body module, and a second drive module coupled to a second end of the body module. One or both of the drive modules may include a pair of wheels, a battery, an electric drive motor, and/or a heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system. One or both of the drive modules may also include a crash structure to absorb impacts. If a component of a drive module fails or is damaged, the drive module can be quickly and easily replaced with a new drive module, minimizing vehicle down time.
Methods and systems of a hybrid vehicle
Methods and systems are provided for a hybrid electric vehicle. In one example, a method may include delaying an electric-only operation of the hybrid vehicle in response to a powertrain temperature being less than a threshold powertrain temperature and an electric-only range being less than a distance between a current location and a recharging location. The electric-only operation may be initiated in response to one or more of the powertrain temperature exceeding the threshold powertrain temperature and the electric-only range being equal to the distance.
VEHICLE TRAVEL CONTROL SYSTEM, VEHICLE, AND VEHICLE TRAVEL CONTROL METHOD
A travel control system for a vehicle and the vehicle includes a battery pack. The battery pack includes a battery, a current sensor configured to detect a current that is charged and discharged to and from the battery, and a first control device that monitors a state of the battery. The travel control system includes a rotary electric machine configured to consume electric power to generate a driving force and configured to generate electric power, a power conversion device electrically connected between the battery and the rotary electric machine and a second control device.
VEHICLE, VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEM, VEHICLE CONTROL METHOD
A vehicle includes a battery pack including a secondary battery and a first control device, a second control device provided separately from the battery pack, and a converter. The converter is configured to select a conversion formula from options depending on a situation and use the selected conversion formula to convert at least one of a first current upper limit value and a second current upper limit value into at least one of a first power upper limit value and a second power upper limit value.
POWERTRAIN SYSTEM
A control device of a powertrain system executes a control input determination processing and a system control processing. The control input determination processing includes a co-state variable determination processing to update a co-state variable p of an optimization problem for each time step and a control input calculation processing. The co-state variable determination processing includes an initial value determination processing that determines, as an initial value of the co-state variable p, the sum of a base value of the initial value and an external charge/discharge correction value. The base value is a final value or an average value of the co-state variable p during the last control time period. The external charge/discharge correction value is determined based on an external charge/discharge amount obtained by subtracting a SOC at the end of the last control time period from the SOC at the start of the current control time period.
Battery pack balancing systems and control logic for multi-pack electric-drive motor vehicles
Presented are traction battery pack balancing systems, methods for making/operating such systems, and multi-pack, electric-drive motor vehicles with battery pack balancing capabilities. A method for controlling operation of a motor vehicle includes a vehicle controller: receiving a key-off command signal to power off the motor vehicle; determining if a difference between corresponding electrical characteristics of first and second traction battery packs is greater than a calibrated characteristic differential threshold; determining if a difference between corresponding battery pack capacities of the first and second traction battery packs is greater than a calibrated capacity differential threshold; and, responsive to the characteristic difference not being greater than the calibrated characteristic differential threshold and the capacity difference being greater than the calibrated capacity differential threshold, transmitting a key-on command signal to power on the motor vehicle, and a pack balancing command signal to reduce the capacity difference to below the calibrated capacity differential threshold.
Vehicle Energy Management System and Related Methods
A through the road (TTR) hybridization strategy is proposed to facilitate introduction of hybrid electric vehicle technology in a significant portion of current and expected trucking fleets. In some cases, the technologies can be retrofitted onto an existing vehicle (e.g., a truck, a tractor unit, a trailer, a tractor-trailer configuration, at a tandem, etc.). In some cases, the technologies can be built into new vehicles. In some cases, one vehicle may be built or retrofitted to operate in tandem with another and provide the hybridization benefits contemplated herein. By supplementing motive forces delivered through a primary drivetrain and fuel-fed engine with supplemental torque delivered at one or more electrically-powered drive axles, improvements in overall fuel efficiency and performance may be delivered, typically without significant redesign of existing components and systems that have been proven in the trucking industry.
Drive force control system for hybrid vehicles
A control system for hybrid vehicles to prevent a reduction in a brake force when an electrical input to a battery is restricted. A controller is configured to execute a regeneration control to deliver a regenerative torque resulting from operating second motor as a generator to the drive wheels, and an engine brake control to deliver a brake torque resulting from a power loss of an engine to the output member. The controller is further configured to select an HV-Lo mode when an input power allowed to accumulate in the battery is smaller than a threshold power.
METHOD FOR CARRYING OUT A LOAD POINT SHIFT OF AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE UPON ACTIVATION OR DEACTIVATION OF AN ELECTRICALLY HEATED COMPONENT
A method for operating an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle, whereby an electrically heated component of an exhaust aftertreatment system being supplied with electrical power via an electric machine driven by the internal combustion engine, a load point shift of the internal combustion engine being carried out by an activation or a deactivation of the component or by a temporary storage of the necessary electrical energy for operating the component in a battery.
